I had extremely high expectations and can say overall I had a good experience. The service was ok, we had to wait nearly 10 minutes for our coffees to come out. Despite the wait, the chilly scrambled eggs was tasty, I will be back again.
Had been looking forward to a visit to Penta for a while and it was certainly worth the wait. Food was modern with Asian influences and the portion sizes were generous (not the minimalist approach you get at some modern brunch spots). Ambiance was great and the place was clean and fresh. We had to request extra water each time it ran out but that was a minor hiccup in an otherwise perfect dining experience. Will definitely be back!
Overall, our visit here was great. We found the environment to be clean, spacious and comfortable. (The interior design is very minimal but modern.) The service was prompt and the staff were friendly. The food itself was visually appealing whilst portion sizes were quite decent. One dish really stood out for us – Penta Benedict – with its bursts of flavours which were well-balanced. We unanimously agreed that the Orange Blossom Hotcake was too sweet and it needed a lot more fruit or even sorbet to counter the sweetness. Everything else (Chia Beetroot Pudding, Herb & Feta Smashed Avo + Chilli Scrambled eggs) was standard. Coffee was delicious however. **NOTE: All public holidays attract a 15% surcharge.
Theirchilli scrambled eggs is sooo good so creamy and cheesy cooked just right. The rosti is amazing with strong hit of Parmesan
Tried the Benedict too. The waffle wasnt good as expected. Wasnt crispy in the center and bbq beef was too sweet and dry.
There’s so much to love about Penta. The interior is designed so that the 5 senses are not overwhelmed, and rather delighted by the amazing food and great coffee.
Not sure how they get that high rating, food is just average like every other cafe, but its way more expensive, You have to wait so long for the food as well.
I dined as a guest of Penta yesterday, some 18 months after my one and only visit. We had heard a rumour the menu is about to change and thought it prudent to revisit old classics such as the cult panna and delicious hotcakes. These are as yummy as ever and I can see why the menu has remained unchanged for so long.
We did take the opportunity to try the okonomiyaki which was a nice savoury dish. I also had the golden bliss smoothie which was exactly that- what a heavenly delight. The nutty professor was recommended by staff but for me this was a little rich and I preferred the refreshing flavours of the golden bliss. Youll love it if you enjoy a really decadent chocolatey flavour though. Cant wait to see what they do with the new offerings!

Headed to Penta this morning for breakfast with the girls due to a glowing recommendation from my partner yesterday. I was told there was a 25-30 minute wait and we actually considered leaving given half my dining companions had a flight to catch but luckily we stuck around as it was literally only 7 minutes before we were seated.
There is nothing that annoys me more than when you are wildly misinformed like this. I get they can only give you an estimation but it would have been a lot more helpful to say you are next in line because we were almost about to try our luck elsewhere. Anyway we were in and the door was once again open (a common theme to my chilly brunches this weekend) so I ordered a turmeric coconut latte to warm up. I thought $6 was kind of pushing the bounds of acceptability for a hot beverage which is 97% water when I didn’t even get a hint of coconut although there was a LOT of cinnamon (probably too much).
Interior was a little sterile for me very industrial looking with exposed pipes which I love but it was so minimalist is lacked character. Everything was slate grey, concrete and aluminium with a slight touch of greenery in the corners (which were also in grey pots). Very slick and modern with its speckled grey marble seating benches with black patent cushioning but it all lacked warmth. Definitely not a welcoming homely atmosphere! Thankfully the food was pretty fantastic.
I was a little disturbed as my meal was sitting on the pass with the rest of the dishes we had ordered and a woman got up and put her iPhone right in there to snap it. I guess it’s really attractive but I didn’t really appreciate it so thanks random lady. I must say nutella pana cotta read like a very strange choice for breakfast (and I like sweet breakfast options) but it was easily the best pana I’ve ever had, both texturally and flavour wise and it was so well done it wasn’t even overly sweet. It was beautifully and intricately plated and tasted just as good as it looked.
I think maybe if it sat on a hotcake or something it would be more of a breakfast dish as currently it’s really a dessert to me but it’s a very delightful not to mention decadent and indulgent choice. I also demolished some of my friends orange blossom hotcakes which were enjoyable too. I personally prefer the vibe at Legacy one of their sister cafes but the Nutella pana cotta will fast become an iconic dish of the Melbourne breakfast scene and that’s reason enough to get down there and experience its deliciousness
