Needing some good bread with my homemade lamb shank and lentil soup, yay winter is coming, so I grabbed some bread from here. The service was ok, and my bread was alright too considering that this is a commercial bakery. In fact this is the first time that I’ve ever brought bread from a brumbies bakery. It’s good to know that the bread was preservative free, so it’s probably best to eat this bread the same day that you buy it.Overall this place and the bread was average.
A sneaky Friday night slice, and a half sized offering at a very reasonable $2 was enticing. I selected a fondant iced piece instead of the poorly dusted alternative. For years I have resisted the urge to buy a vanilla slice from a chain bakery in my pursuit of perfection, but this took the edge off for sure. The item itself was OK, very average bakery pastry with a hint of sogginess to the underside, and a rather nicely textured but not flavourless custard filling. The icing was actually pretty good and added a nice sweetness to the slice, and was a good thickness in relation to the overall proportions.
