Have walked past this place for several years and thought I would give it a go today. Bewildered at the lack of customer service. Walked in and placed my order with the fat asian guy who was glaring at me when I walked in the door He told me I was at the wrong counter and redirected me very rudely to the other counter. Was met by an equally unpleasant old greek woman at a register who did not even greet me and instead just took my order and shoved the eftpos machine at me over the counter. What the hell happened to a basic hello and how can I help you. I thought maybe the food is amazing and they can get away with this behaviour but my fish and chips tasted like old stale sock. Dissappointing on so many levels. Learn some basic customer service at the very least. Will not be back. pathetic place.
As said below, older lady that serves can be rude. Not always but most of the time. It’s like the customers only get in the way, not that they’re essential to the success of the business.
And for god’s sake it’s 2017…. get an eftpos machine! This is often the main source of dismay between staff and customers, and most often the trigger for the older lady’s aggression. Armed robbers target cash only businesses, eftpos can add safety for traders who operate in the evening. There are many obvious advantages but I’ll stop there.
The food is pretty good, except on busy nights when things get sloppy. This is how they’ve remained in business so long despite their hatred for customers.
I’ve been heading there for 5 years, not because they’re great but because they’re good enough and within a short distance from home. If an identical store opened next door with eftpos and no rude staff, myself (and many others) would go there instead.

The chips could have been more golden, so too the batter. I tried a fried dim sim but was not impressed with the flavour and it could have been cooked a bit more to make it more crunchy.
Prices were reasonable and the fish (flake) seemed very fresh.
I’m not sure I’ll go back, while it was OK, it is not worth a drive to Essendon for.
