Worst restaurant in Melbourne. Prawn in all dishes. Curry and maggi noodles sold as ‘Singapore Noodle’, 2-2.5 hours waiting for some at our table, sweet and sour a flaming red colour and can we say that the Delicious Beef is false advertising. Would like to say I’m surprised how bad this all was- but I am not as the surrounds and the menu items look/ sound like something out of Melbourne in the 80s (think Dragon Fly)….. The only good thing I can say- and how I legitimise a 1/5 was the shark fin soup.

Tope is probably the worst restaurant I’ve had the displeasure of eating at. Service, whilst friendly left something to be desired and the food was deplorable.
We had a group of twenty people and it took two hours for people to get their meals. Food, when it arrived was revolting and for some reason everything contained prawns, both the pork dumplings and scallop dumplings contained prawns, but not stated on the menu so good luck if you have allergies. Of the food I tried: Singapore noodles- I would have been better saving the calories and just eating a jar of curry powder because thats all I could taste, scezhwan chicken -pretty much just chicken with a bottle of sweet chili sauce, sweet and sour pork was glowing and was pretty much all flour and the fried rice-dry had no flavour. The reason I tried so many dishes was because after 2 hours I was seagulling of everyone elses plates. My cousin also said his ‘delicious beef’ should have been called ‘ok beef’.
Another cousin got their main meal then waited 45min for their accompanying rice.
Not impressed and wont be back.

Great little place, beautiful ambience, pleasant staff, sensible background music. We just had some basics, the scallops were well prepared, but the stand out was the delicious sizzling beef. The fried ice cream is always good too. Don’t dismiss this place too easily.

I am a fan of Tope. The food is always nice and the customer service is also of a high quality. I like the outdoor area that you can hire to eat in as well.

  • Not A Happy Result

What a disgrace. Do yourself a favour and eat else where. My family and I went to this Restaurant last Thursday for my cousins birthday. What an absolute disgrace.
The food took 2 hours to be brought out and when the food was brought out they brought out the wrong meals.
There were 13 of us. The first 8 people got theirs, in ridiculous time frames mind you. 3 people were sharing meals but only two meals came out at once. The last meal of those sharing took 45 minutes from the time the other 2 meals came out- needless to say the other meals were cold by the time the last one came out. Not to mention it took 5 requests for the bowls to come out so people could share their meal.
The last 5 meals were so late to come out, mine included, that in the end I told them not worry about mine, so I went hungry.
My cousins partner got his to take away- who wants to eat at 8:45 when they arrived at the venue at 6:30?
My entre of 3 dumplings the size of Mini Dim Sims came out an hour and half earlier and they were awful.
When my Uncle first approached them it was 45 minutes after we ordered. Not once did we get a ‘sorry’ or ‘here is a round of drinks on us’. They were so oblivious to what was going on around them. When it got to an hour, my Uncle approached them again, naturally a little annoyed and AGAIN, nothing. No apology. When the hour and half was up, we had all just about had it.
The bill came, without my meal on it, which was fair enough, but when my Uncle once again approached the woman, who looked to be the owner or at least a manager, again, no apology to start with and nothing off the bill.
Now I’m not one for freebies but for the sake of having customers come back and spread nice words about the restaurant after they were treated like they meant nothing to the Restaurant, I would think they would be reasonable enough to take at least the drinks off the bill. In the end at the very last second, we got one ‘Sorry, it was busy’.
Um actually, no you weren’t busy. There were 6 tables of small groups, us being the largest by far, and your attitude, lack of service and cold meals were an absolute disgrace.
It’s by word of mouth that helps businesses and I can guarantee you a lot of people I know who live around Essendon who dine out frequently will be made very clear of the awful experience my family and I had.
I just hope my cousins birthday dinner next year is a better one than this years because he deserved a nice night but instead he got an awful experience at your restaurant. Avoid this at all costs everyone. But good luck if you do decide to give it a try! None of us will be back…and that, TOPE, is a guarantee.

Very disappointing. We have eaten at this restaurant a few times and found it to be quite good. However, on the weekend we ordered chicken satay sticks and they were so tough they were not edible. We also ordered Cantonese fillet steak and this was also quite tough. Overall, very disappointed in the food.
