I didnt like this place. Its an ordinary space that its bit ratty and dated. It needs a renovation. That alone isnt fatal though. More problematic is the service here which is very poor. Terse, unfriendly and uncommunicative. The antithesis of good customer service. My coffee was ok but nothing special. Service is critical to the hospitality sector. Its rare for me to give a fail but I have no option but to confer one here.

Fantastic food and fantastic service. A real find!. I was looking for a local cafe that served good wholesome food, decent coffee and was allergy friendly…Down to Earth is your one stop shop! I had the poached eggs with mushrooms and wilted kale on the best gluten free bread served by a cafe that I have tasted. It was all perfectly cooked and absolutely delicous. Others had dishes including the big breakfast, the smashed avocado on sourdough and poached eggs with smoked salmon. Nothing could be faulted. Our meals were topped off with smooth, strong and perfectly hot organic coffee. My large was served in a huge mug akin to a bucket and with three shots set me up for the rest of the day. The service was friendly and efficient and topped off an all around terrific lunch. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this cafe for top quality food, great coffee and service with a genuine smile.
Great food, coffee and milkshakes.
Male toilet was dirty and there was no lock.
Friendly staff
A smile works wonders!. Have now eaten lunch at Down to Earth on a number of occasions, as I work nearby. The food is consistently good, such as the Avocado and Goats Cheese Fritters with Salsa that I had this week….yum, but the service is consistently poor! Clifton Hill is spoilt for choice when it comes to cafes (my absolute, all time favourite is Cavallini – for food and service!), but amazingly, the young lady behind the counter at Down to Earth either doesn’t understand, or doesn’t care, about the basics of good customer service. On a good day you might just happen to squeeze a smile out of her, but generally you’re lucky to get any eye contact and she’s usually more intent on chatting away to the chef in the kitchen or clanging about with the cutlery, than providing good honest service.
Great food, but I think I’ll stick with Cavallini down the road – they’ve got it all going on down there!
Too slow. Coffee was ok but breakfast took a half an hour to arrive. Puzzling as the place was nearly empty.
Best coffee on Queens Parade!
Never disappointed when I eat here on a fairly regularly basis.
