Such a warm welcoming old fashioned suburban pub. Great food for very reasonable prices. An interesting selection of wines and beers on tap. Some superb collection of Carlton and Fitzroy Football club historic photos. The 2 open fire places in the main bar are a must on a cold winters night.
Haven’t been here for a few years – previously it was a warm, inviting, friendly venue with staff who cared and excellent food- apparently no longer the case with new owners. Wait staff don’t want to be there, food selection super basic (e.g. Parma, chips, steak), zero atmosphere and basically a disappointment. Parma was covered in ice cold tomato sauce straight from the fridge and the rack of lamb while yes should be a little rare, was tough and a struggle to cut. Never again.
CAN NOT RECOMMEND! I’ve been a frequent visitor to this pub in the past, so I was looking forward to coming back with work colleagues after many years of not having had a meal here. Wow what a difference. The rare Angus Porterhouse that I ordered came out like a well done piece of rump. And the mushroom sauce was so sparse I got no hint of flavor from it. On the plus side, the veggies were well cooked, and the chips nice also. Determined to push on, I tried one of 2 desserts – the poached pair. Again, have to say wow. Under cooked to the point of being raw – I don’t think they even bothered to pretend with this and zap it in the microwave. To the point that those of us that tried one had to resort to a knife and fork to get the job done. If I were offered a steak knife I would have accepted. Again, on the plus side the mascarpone cream that accompanied the pair was delicious. But I can’t recommend this! And if you’re GF because you have to be, unfortunately the waiters gave us no confidence suggesting all manner of options that would be cross contaminated.
A rare find, a pub without pretensions. The food was for the most part was old style standard pub fare, but excellent in its range and presentation. All meals @ the table of 4 were uniformly delicious and generous in their portions. Wood heaters kept the atmosphere warm on cosy on a cold Melbourne day. Highly recommended for a long afternoon on a dreary Melbourne day.
Friendly service, chilled vibe and standard pub fare with all the usual staples. Our table of six ordered schnitzel, steak sandwich, risotto, steak, burger and Parma. No stand outs but all were freshly prepared and hit the spot.
Solid little performer! This place has come leaps and bounds recently. It’s not a gastro pub, but a solid traditional pub, draped in history and charm. Given it’s off the main street, it’s a local haunt. Prices are reasonable, food is great and the service is friendly. Great courtyard for dogs too!
Worst parma in Melbourne. Gluggy tomato slop and a mess of cheese, without any ham, makes for a very sad chicken parma. Never again. Blasphemy.
