We felt in love with this place. It has the zen and minimalism feel that only Japanese can create. Food is simple yet delicious – which is exactly what our bodies need. Macha latte is perfect. The curry croissant made our day is simply delicious. Look carefully at the bottom of their glasses, you will notice that the glasses are from Kinto- our favourite Japanese design brand. Quiet atmosphere with lots of sunlight, friendly staffs, simple healthy japanese homecook, it makes you want to spend your whole afternoon reading here.
I have eaten here several times. Great little Japanese cafe. It is very small and quite hard to find but has a nice atmosphere. The food and coffee are very good. The menu is limited and is quasi traditional Japanese. The soba noodles are delicious, the macha scones are very tasty. I will keep visiting this cafe.
It is such a nice and quiet place to have a nice cup of coffee and chill. relaxed atmosphere filled with Japanese style.
It is near the tram station, and easy to be found.
Came here a few times and had the following from the menu:
Macchapuccino: This is essentially a cup of cappuccino with matcha infused in it; a concoction that is not commonly found at other cafes. If youre a lover of matcha and coffee, you will definitely need to give it a go! The macchapuccino was not watered down or overly milky; coffee is nice and strong and you can taste the matcha throughout the whole cup. It is different but definitely not inferior to a matcha latte or cappuccino.
Iced Yuzu tea soda: A cold and refreshing drink; the bold flavour of yuzu is definitely present. The carbonated soda is self-mixed so you can start off mixing it a little to enjoy the strong flavour of yuzu and then gradually mixing it thoroughly to balance the sweetness. There was not a hint of tea in the drink, probably masked by the fizzy soda but in my opinion wouldnt enhance the drink anyways.
Azuki butter toast: A simple Japanese cafe dish consisting of a thick slice of toasted white bread with a spread of butter to give it a nice golden yellow surface and a generous amount of sweet red bean paste on top. A little bit of matcha powder is also sprinkled on top to give it more colour; more so than for flavouring. The toast has a light crunch on the edges and the middle is just soft and fluffy. Then you have the smooth red bean paste to go with the toast. It is not overly sweet but unlike your normal spread such as strawberry jam, it has no tartness at all.
Curry croissant: The curry was cooked with mushrooms, potatoes and carrots and is served with two half croissants which were toasted with cheese and topped up with some herbs. The curry has a mild savoury profile that is not spicy and the carrots add a slight sweetness to the curry. The flavour of the croissant and cheese is also mild; you get the flaky crisp of the croissant and the delightful chewy cheese. Nothings overpowering in the dish and the curry and croissant can be eaten separately or together.
Overall the food was simple but satisfying and is great if you want something light but the drinks were definitely the highlight.
Who can possibly say why this place is sitting at 3.00 when they’ve only gotten 4.5-5 star reviews. Anywayyyyy, this place is great Best Macca latte I’ve ever had- delicate, creamy, just enough sweetness. The thick cut Japanese style bread is perfect for the simple and super tasty toppings. Can’t wait to try the cheesy bread curry. Also just such nice interior and vibe.
Really beautiful little cafe, sort of a forest+concrete inside-outside hip casual wabi sabi vibe. Best espresso I’ve had in Melbourne! Try the butter toast with black sesame paste.
A Japanese coffee shop sandwiched into a concrete bunker storage room in Fitzroy North. Sounds strange? Kind of is. Felt squishy even with just 9 customers so don’t bring all your rowdy mates, it won’t work. It does however have oddles of sunlight, cute low set tables & stools and some really excellent coffee. Had a couple of sandwiches and they were perfectly acceptable. If you want to know what Japanese coffee shops are like then this is funnily enough pretty authentic. Service is a tad slow.
