Boycotting this place as cafe charges $3.80 for a babycino. Most expensive babycino in Melbourne – tiny cup with half milk. To make matters worse, owner defended charge by stating it was a coffee. When it was pointed out a babycino contains no coffee. He replied the coffee only cost 20 cents anyway. Shocked and annoyed.

One of my absolute favourite brunch/lunch spots in Melbourne.
The space inside is beautiful, warm and welcoming and on a warm day there is a lovely quiet spot out the back to laze away your afternoon.
Staff are always friendly and knowledgable.
The food is amazing. Have been coming here for a while now and have yet to have anything that disappoints. Honest and delicious food and a great drinks list.PLUS a ridiculous selections of cheese and cured meat.Todays special, half roast duck, kipfler potatoes with spinach. 10/10

Had high expectations that were not met… Felt the food did not stand out and was nothing special. Staff were lovely and there was a wide selection of cheese and curd meat.

Summary: doesnt match its rating – average food and slow service tonight.

A disappointing experience, unfortunately. Id wanted to come to Two Tall Chefs for several years. The restaurant has had a buoyant rating for a long time around the mid to low 4s out of 5, the reviews have been consistently good over that period and the place always sounds interesting. Lastly, the place always looks nice from the street. It felt like a sure bet yet curiously we had a pretty average night here at best.

The interesting thing to ponder is how much of this was self inflicted on the night. Only one of the tall chefs was working we overheard and from what we could see, the restaurant was one server short all night.

I really like the restaurant space itself. Its not large but its well ordered with an attractive cuteness, if I can call it that. We were nicely greeted on arrival. The young New Zealand server is a very good operator. Unfailingly polite and efficient, yet shes asked to do too much on what we saw. She was thinly stretched and then appeared to be relieved by an older woman at some point midway through our dinner. For what reason, I dont know. The older woman was also lovely but was again far too stretched during her stint. She was literally running from table to table and not able to meet our needs fully or others. An example was when we got our cheese platter. We received the platter but without our own plates and insufficient biscuits. The server was only able to get back to us to bring us those things when wed had most of the cheese. Its a small thing but try sharing a mid table cheese platter without individual plates at some point. Its awkward and messy.

The meal itself was average at best. All dishes were below par we thought, particularly at these prices. I had the smoked trout. Flat was the best way to describe it. It looked bland and grey in the dimmish light (a feature of all dishes on the night). It was ok at best with no real stand out flavour. I looked across at my companions scotch egg which looked similarly uninspired to me. He confirmed the observation. The mains were pretty much the same. I continued with seafood. My fish was pretty much the same. The dish didnt look good and was again largely pedestrian and unmemorable. An exception was the stuffed zucchini flower which was very nicely cooked and flavoured. My companion was similarly underwhelmed by his pork dish.

It was feeling like a wasted and rather expensive night until we ordered a cheese platter with roquefort and several hard and soft cheeses. We were deep in conversation at this point and I missed the names and origins of the other cheeses. The cheese platter almost saved the night for us. The roquefort was extraordinary, as good as Ive had, and the other cheeses were similarly excellent. We enjoyed the platter very much. It was also pleasing that the cheese servings were a decent size, not minuscule as they can be at other places.

But, overall it was an ordinary night and Id score it only a 2.5 if half marks were permitted. I felt very disappointed overall as Id chosen the place. Perhaps it was just an off night. All places have them. I wont have a chance to test that though as Im not planning a return.

Great menu and lovely staff! Really good for a quick lunch or a longer dinner. It’s also a cheese shop which is handy if you’d like to pick up some cheese afterwards.

Best steak sandwich I have ever tasted!!!!! Dine in or relax in the backyard beer garden. Service was so delightful coffee hits the spot. Would highly recommend!
