Bontempo is located at the far end of Brunswick Street and welcomes dinners into a modern space with exposed brick, black and white prints and an impressive bar and pizza oven area. The menu was Italian with some good pizza/pasta topping combinations.

We started with a Focaccia Bianca, this combination of garlic and cheese and a scattering of herbs on a wood fire oven pizza base was a winner, the garlic was flavoursome without being to overpowering and was a great way to start our meal. The pizza dough here is fermented for 48 hours, is lovely and thin and the crust has the perfect texture.

Tonight for mains we had the spaghetti di mare, the subtle and delicate sauce of olive oil and white wine was perfect with the seafood, enhancing the flavours of the sea and allowing them to shine.

We also chose the Zucca pizza with the sweetest roasted pumpkin, feta, pinenut, basil, rosemary, garlic and spinach. This was an incredible combination of flavours but the addition of pine nuts takes this pizza to the next level. One of the best vegetarian pizzas out there imo.

I also opted for the Panko crumbed veal schnitzel with Italian slaw and chips. The zesty Italian slaw was incredibly fresh and had me going back for more. The veal schnitzel was tender and tasty and I made myself deliberately slow down and enjoy every mouthful of one of my favourite dishes.

We would certainly come back here in a second. Thanks so much for the invitation.

I havent had a good pizza in far too long so I was really excited to be invited to visit this pizza place.

The service was good and the food… amazing!

We started w mushrooms wrapped in prosciutto and feta and cooked in a wood fired oven. OMGosh this was the most incredible food Ive eaten in a very very long time. Youve gotta try this!

Then we tried the signature potato pizza which had a thin tasty crust and a yummy topping.

For main I ordered a vegetarian pizza w roast pumpkin mozzarella, English spinach, pine nuts and garlic. This was the best delicious vegetarian pizza that Ive ever eaten. A big call but true and my partner agreed! I loved the wood fired thin pizza base and the topping was perfect.

My partner had a prosciutto pizza which was also really good but I think my pizza was the winner hahaha

Overall this was a great night and if you want a good pizza then you cant go past this place. Yummo lol

We came into Bontempo the other night to catch up and try some Italian food from this new kid on the block .

The first reaction from walking in was how open the space was and the lovely woodfire at the front where all the pizzas are prepared fresh. We were greeted by friendly staff and sat on a long bench on the side at the middle of the restaurant.

We started our meal with some prosciutto mushrooms which were grilled perfectly and packed with fetta, herbs and wrapped with crispy prosciutto, the arancini balls which were mushroom flavoured had this delicious pesto sauce underneath which we both liked alot.

The mains included the lamb pizza which was recommended and home made gnocchi with Matriciana sauce, the gnocchi was extremely soft and light , the sauce packed a lot of flavour however I do wish it was a bit spicier . The pizza dough was made well , the toppings really paired well with the lamb and you could tell the protein was the hero of the dish , apart from the pizza dough underneath which was outstanding.

For dessert we shared a white chocolate raspberry calzone and also a cassata which was the owners Nans recipe . The white chocolate was not prominent enough inside the calzone but the mixture of flavours are definitely a crowd pleaser. The cassata was unlike anything I have ever had, and I was glad we ordered it. The layers of almond ice cream, cherry rip and also chocolate was a great combination and kept me going back for more.

Overall we really enjoyed our visit to Bontempo , which also means a good time -this we certainly did

    Thanks for having us !

In June 2017, Bontempo an Italian restaurant opened its doors at 416 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. Bontempo, which is Italian for good times has a sister restaurant called Fratellino in South Yarra. The restaurant is rather huge and you can sit at the bar or grab a table in the restaurant. The decor is rustic with rough brick walls, cool pendant lighting and of course the huge wood-fired pizza oven.
We were greeted by friendly staff members and shown to our table.
The menu is what youd expect from an Italian restaurant and we chose the Sage and Rosemary Foccacia, the Patatine Fritte (fries), the Bruschetta, a green salad called Mista, the Rigatoni Napoli, and the Spaghetti Calabrese.
One of our favourite dishes was the Sage and Rosemary Foccacia. The herbs were not too overpowering with freshly baked soft and fluffy bread. You can tell the chefs really know how to make a focaccia! The best Ive ever had.
The Bruschetta was a little out of the ordinary in that it was presented in a slightly different way than Ive had in the past with slices of tomato as opposed to the usual chopped tomatoes. It was, however, very tasty with the right amount of garlic and herbs and served on delicious wood-fired bread.
Both of the pasta dishes were cooked perfectly, al dente and the main course size was most generous. The Spaghetti Calabrese consisted of Broccoli, cherry tomatoes, onion, olives, pine nuts, chilli, basil, garlic & a napoli sauce it was full of flavour and incredibly appetizing.
Chips and salad were both faultless.
The friendly customer service continued throughout the evening and we were made to feel like their most important customers. Our waiter was friendly, attentive and most hospitable.
Bontempo is open 7 days a week from 5pm it gets pretty busy so it pays to book. The menu has gluten free and vegan options and is available for takeaway as well. Easy wheelchair access, kid friendly menu, a great cocktail list and a full bar makes Bontempo the place to be for good times! Highly recommended.

We were lucky enough to visit Bontempo, another great pizza place in Fitzroy. The restaurant is quite large with bar area, wood fired oven and a lot of big and small tables.

    We ordered 4 dishes
    – Gnocchi Gamberoni
    – Pescotara
    – Pizza Di Mare
    – Ruchetta (salad)

Their homemade gnocchi was amazing ! Seafood was fresh unlike some other places. We really enjoyed our meal here.

  • Good Food Good Mood

We were invited to Bontempo last night meaning good times in Italian. Good times it sure was with a modern on trend minimalist space and cool music playing creating a relaxed Sunday evening ambiance. The open kitchen allows you to observe the pizza magic being created by chefs clad in fun Hawaiian shirts which they coined silly Sundays- great atmosphere all round.

We began the meal with a garlic, cheese and potato focaccia. This simple pairing was the perfect start to the meal. Im a big fan of potato on pizza and this was irrefutable proof that carb on carb is a winning combination.

I chose to order a small pizza so I could also sample a pasta. The Margherita is of course a classic but afterwards I wished I had been a bit more adventurous and tried the Agnello which was a slow cooked lamb. My husband got the vegetarian and proclaimed it best pizza Ive had in Melbourne so veggie lovers may want to make a reservation pronto.

The pasta was a yummy pesto fettuccine and a most generous portion so much so that I was unbelievably full and had to skip a dessert calzone even though that almost broke my heart. Certainly good value in terms of portion sizes and the sort of place you could bring anyone to from a group of friends to a special date

Was on brunswick st having drinks on Saturday night and accidentally came to this place. Have always heard good things about Bontempo and it was actually nice!

Ordered chips, king prawn pasta and two pizzas – Fitzroy and Hawaiian. My pizza and pasta were both very yummy. Ordered tiramisu for dessert. It was way too sweet. Definitely avoid that. But everything else was lovely! Very nice vibe and good service.
