Faraday’s Cage was on my partner and I’s to-visit list for a while. Such faith was placed in the rave reviews and ratings that we may have went a little overboard with our order. We ordered the House Smoked Salmon & Fritters, Soft-Shell Crab Burger (with chips), Carrot Ginger & Orange Juice and last but certainly not least, a pink frosted Cronut that was unable to avoid my partner’s longing gaze.

The fritters were undeniably exquisite and different: accompanied by tangy flavours sourced from the salsa and garnishings. The salmon was cooked perfectly, not over or underdone like at some brunch spots; it was also devoid of an overly fishy taste that I find offputting. One word of warning if you skim over lengthy ingredient lists like I do sometimes, the stuffed jalapeno popper is NOT a crumbed pickle; avoid even looking at it if you can’t handle the heat. The Soft-Shell Crab Burger (from the specials menu) did not stand out and was a bit too oily. There also appeared to be more batter than crab, making it a touch disappointing despite appearing to be very well put together. The juice did wonders for my hangover to the point of eliminating it entirely by the time we were done. The wonderfully delicate cronut capped off a solid brunch – Faraday’s Cage was everything that we expected it to be.

Love love love Faradays Cage, have been here a couple of times and it always delivers with delicious food!
Have had the chilli scrambled eggs, and mushroom with bacon, both heavenly options! Lovely service with great chilled out location.

Will definitely be back again! 🙂

I ordered the Spanish baked eggs because it was on the specials menu. I like the combination of this dish and this dish is rich in flavour. I also ordered the ice tea which I think was quite tasteless. I expected the ice tea to be a little sweeter. Other than that, the environment of this cafe is really nice and the service was good too.

    Faraday cage- definitely recommend

Ambiance 5: really cool indoor space with brick walls. The windows with baked good looks amazing. Fun high tables up back with news papers available.

Food 4: The food was sensational. However one of our meals had a hair in it, although staff went about this quiet well. They instantly went to go make the dish again and it was delicious. The granola was crunchy and prefect, the pear sweet and pretty and the fruit very fresh. The Bircher was very filling and well balanced with the yogurt and mango. The hot cakes were also perfect, the combination of honey comb, berries, cream and sherbet was yum! Smoothies were fresh, we couldnt decide which was better out of bananarama and greenabigal. By far the BEST THING was the cronut!! I have never had one before, but this one had white chocolate balls filled with custard. Sooo yum! All the pastries good. Coffees and chais are great too.

Service 5: staff were great. Particularly one waitress who was very helpful with explaining the dishes. They were attentive and friendly.

Fun fact: painted across the whole back wall is a wheres Wally

Faradays cage is one of my favorite brunch places in Melbourne. I have never got disappointed at its food, drink and service.

The pork Benedict is fabulous, using wonderful Hollandise sauce and a little chili makes it a magic one.

The pear granola is amazing! The pear is well poached. Granola are baked perfect. The yogurt is absolutely yummy. All the ingredients in it makes it fabulous.

Cold drip is as good it is always.

Good food, but not sure if it warrants a near perfect score of 4.9 rating. We ordered the highly rated ricotta hot cakes and also the truffle mushroom. The savoury dish was clearly better, we enjoyed the mushroom, pumpkin pure although I wished the cheese was tastier. The ricotta hot cake was delicious but we couldnt finish it Cos it was a bit too rich! Still, good presentation, acceptable coffee and friendly service.

I have always wanted to check this place out. I love the food, location, and the ambience was lovely. My friends and I ordered various dishes so we could compare and try each others meals. The meals included white truffle mushroom, smoked salmon and fritters and smashed avocado. I would suggest booking as it is always busy. Definitely one of the best places to have brunch.
