We loved visiting this cafe, and even on the hot day it was pleasantly cool sitting outside under the umbrellas! We cant fault the food, it was absolutely fantastic! We got the pancakes which were simple, light and fluffy. The Eggs Benny was delish! Loved the fried pickle on the side! Then the avo and toast is perfect for the hot day, it was tasty and we liked the pesto as it works well with Nutella Panacotta!

Lizzies first impression: a great little French inspired brunch spot situated in the heart of Fitzroy. You cant miss the cafe as it is painted with a two fold colour of dark green and pink.

Lizzie enjoyed: the service here is amazing – they were very attentive. I very much enjoyed the croissant as t was fresh and crispy. I very much enjoyed the eggs Benedict and the hash was crispy and matched well with the pickled onions. The scrambled eggs was another winner for me as they topped it with Parmesan.

Lizzie did not enjoy: there are still a lot of French words in the menu that I dont understand!! But I guess the ingredients below makes up for it. Dont let that deter you from ordering different dishes!

Lizzie rates overall: this cafe feels small but enough to feel the room with great ambience – it is especially all hustle and bustle on the weekend so make sure to get in earlier than the peak hour.

The cauliflower, chilli and parmesan scramble is to die for. So rich in cheese and thick chunks of cauli, although not nearly as spicy as expected. Went down nicely with a soy flat white, made just to my liking. Tried my friends soba noodles as well, which I’ll definitely be coming back to try. One of the best things about Gabriel is the retro inspired, hunter green and burgundy fitout, full of rich textures and interesting fixtures. It’s a great antithesis to the minimalist, pastel decor Melbourne’s become saturated with over the past few years.

New kids on the block Gabriel, would have to be one of the best cafes in Fitzroy, serving up trendy contemporary dishes in an appealing, modern atmosphere. With a lovely interior featuring green bricked walls and marble bar tops, with wall seating on and customary cushioned seats, Gabriel certainly is unique. Large open windows provide natural lighting, opening up the cafe.

After seeing the former resident of the building De Clue close I was very excited to see another strong cafe take its place. Late on a Sunday afternoon we entered this lovely establishment and where seated immediately on table for 2 next to the window just in front of the coffee bar. Menus where provided and we could not wait to see what we where in for. The menu is tasteful featuring dressed up classic brunch dishes with a elegant touch. A full cocktail and drinks list is also available ideal for afternoon drinks or cheeky weekend brunches.

We firstly ordered drinks being a long black along with an iced mocha and we analysed the menu further. As it was later in the day the cafe started to emptying as the early lunches started to leave so our coffees arrived promptly. The long black was magnificent. Strong and bold in flavour with a light texture and strong acidic berry aroma. The iced mocha was equally as indulgent with luscious creamy ice-cream and a generous lashing of thick chocolate syrup that was utterly refreshing.

After many inquiries into the menu we finally ordered opting for granola and the fry-up. Our meals arrived and our jaws dropped as both dishes where presented beautifully showcasing the great quality of the fresh produce. The Fry-up consisting of eggs, tomato, kale, potato and cream cheese minus the pork belly replaced with bacon and added sambal was the perfect balance of flavour. The eggs where cooked to perfection and the bacon was crispy and salty. The cream cheese complimented the potatoes and the added sambal was pungent adding an almighty spicy kick.

The granola with roasted seeds and nuts, vanilla bean yoghurt and fresh fruit was a nutty, crunchy dish of dreams. The granola was littered with roasted almonds, cashews, coconut and seeds was bitter and slightly salty just how I like it. The creamy vanilla yoghurt was tart not to sweet and the fresh fruit relieved the palate offering a refreshing punch of sweetness crafting for a flawless dish.

After our meals we could not resist trying one of their amazing baked treats on displaying ordering a vegan brownie and a chai latte to finish an amazing dining experience. The chai was well spiced with the ideal froth ratio. The brownie was dense and fudgy certainly for those who have a large sweet tooth.

Gabriel is a sensational cafe delivering excellent food and coffee in upbeat classic Fitzroy designer space. The staff are all lovely and attentive and the service is excellent leaving customers with full bellies eager to return.
