Ichi Ni Nana is a traditional Japanese Izakaya experience having a wide range of cocktails and sakes as well as a diverse range of fresh sashimi, sushi and other Japanese dishes.
Didnt experience the coffee stop as we went there for dinner.
Entering through the main doors on the ground level after having drinks and nibbles upstairs I found the environment a little dark. We were greeted by two employees and then entered main double doors to be greeted by numerous booths on the left that are said to be handmade. On the right as we continued to to back of the restaurant was a large preparation bench and display of fresh sashimi and employees preparing fresh sushi.
The back of the restaurant opened up and became a lot lighter with the glass retractable ceiling. On the left of our table was a detached cable car that could be booked for an intimate dinner for what looked like 4 people max.
Take Rice Crisps (5 pieces) served with a topping of smoked octopus in a creamy sauce that were yummy but make sure you order enough so that you have at least two each. We also had the dragon roll similar to that at Maydaya but not as nice or spicy and the Waygu Beef served medium rare which was tender.
The Volcano Roll which we though might be a little more spicy turned out to refer to the gimmicky serving display with Smokey dry ice.
The service was a little slow and some of the meals were overpriced for what they were. To make it worse we were eating dessert and told to hurry up as they had another booking that needed our seats. We were only a medium group of 12 and spent a reasonable amount.
Worth a try once due to the freshness of the sashimi but wont be back for a while due to the poor the service and some of the pricing as Melbourne has numerous Japanese restaurants to try that are more welcoming.
