First Brunch of the Year! We came to this relatively new cafe hidden in the backstreets of Fitzroy. Its quite a spacious warehouse setting with an Industrial, rustic ambience
.
I opted MONT BLANC ($5) as it was created by their own head barista, which was a shot of long black from local roaster vacation coffee topped with a layer of caramel crme It was so smooth and lovely. They also serve MORK HOT CHOCOLATE ($5) I always love their dark chocolate taste perfect balance of sweet and bitter.
.
There werent many options on the food menu but the PULLED PORK BENNY ($19.5) & DORAYAKI PANCAKES ($21) we had was fabulous! The pulled pork was deliciously succulent and tender with a great flavor of sriracha bernaise, and the croquettes had a crispy coating.
.
For the pancakes, I was surprisingly impressed as they were bigger than I expected and filling (it looks small in the picture) it was filled with banana butter, brled banana, coconut pandan whipped cream, toasted coconut flakes and pistachio di bronte gelato. Pancakes were denser than a fluffy one, but dont get me wrong it was delicious! It actually better than the fluffy one I always have. It had a crunchy texture on the outside, and the perfect bounce of moist inside. The toasted coconut flakes added a wonderful crunch mouth-feel. Mixed it with the gelato, it was a heaven on my plate. I was surprised to find out that this was a vegan dish, tasted truly amazing
.
Would come back for the great coffee and some dishes.
This little cute cafe caught my attention and I was eager to try it out. Its located in Fitzroy amongst other cafe rivalries. My question is, was it a good choice to go here or should we have tried somewhere else. Only one way to find out.
My first impression – I love the open space. Sometimes high ceiling warehouse style restaurant/cafe might look quite uninviting but this one looked warm and modern which I really liked. I loved lighting and the rustic looking interior surrounding the cafe.
We were seated and we order a latte and a got chocolate. My bf is a latte expert and he approves of it. I was excited for the hot chocolate, especially since their used Mork hot chocolate and Ive heard great things about their hot chocolate but it was a bit bitter for my liking, more on the dark chocolate side I guess.
For savoury dishes we ordered the Benny and smoked salmon. I love the way they played the food. Very clean and modern. I enjoyed the looks of the plate the used but I didnt like how when you scraped the plate it made a sound that felt like you were ruining their plate. The Benny I found delicious. I loved the flavours used. The pull pork was flavoursome and the eggs Benedict were cooked to perfection, extremely yolky, mixed with the pull pork – delicious. The smoked salmon was a bit of a let down though. The zucchini and corn fritters were quite dry. I didnt like the flavours of the dish and it wasnt memorable
For sweet we ordered their pancakes filled with banana butter brled banana, coconut pandan whipped cream, toasted coconut flakes and a mint and coconut icecream. I enjoyed the pancakes. I liked how they slightly burnt the outside which gave it that nice crunchy texture and inside had that gooey banana centre. I like addition of fresh fruits that cut through the heaviness of pancakes. The toasted coconut flakes didnt really do much to the dish and the ice cream was quite icy and the mint didnt really suit the dish. I wish they served a coconut ice cream or perhaps plain old vanilla bean would of been really nice.
Overall, the food wasnt too bad! I would defs recommend trying their pull porked Benny!
This cafe is a hidden gem in Fitzroy. Opened not long ago and surprisingly spacious inside with a lot of communal tables perfect for group of friends to chill and hang out. There is a door at the end and I thought it was an extension of the cafe, but it is actually a stationery retail store. Pretty interesting.
I ordered the Green chilli scrambled eggs with spanish pesto, manchego, caramelised onions, cherry tomatoes and bacon. There is definitely a spicy chilli kick to this dish, and a generous portion of scrambled eggs which I was unable to finish. A bit bland in flavour in the dish itself, so the caramelised onions and cherry tomatoes add a bit of a sour punch to it.
My partner ordered the Smoked salmon with zucchini and corn fritters, horseradish cream, capers, poached egg, pomegranate seeds and dill. I had a taste and it was really refreshing with the salted taste of the smoked salmon, you can taste a sweet burst of pomegranate seeds.
My favourite dish is of course the Dorayaki pancakes. I’ve heard of this even before I came to the cafe so I just had to try it! For the pancakes alone, I would give 5 stars! It was filled with banana butter, bruleed banana, coconut pandan whipped cream, toasted coconut flakes and pistachio di bronte gelato. I thought it was a light and airy fluffy pancake, but it was actually kind of dense and moist, with a variety of textures to it. You can taste the soft fluffiness yet crunchiness from the other elements, and whilst it was warm, the ice cream added a cold taste to it which was really delicious.
I got the dulce de latte drink as I liked the dulce de leche dessert and thought it was somewhat similar. It was a caramel drink with milk and tasted really nice and not too sweet. Almost like a caramel hot chocolate drink.
My partner got the cappuccino which had a very nice coffee art to it. Apparently the korean barista won an award for their coffee so they are known to serve really nice coffee. It was a bit bitter and strong coffee taste.
The owner is pretty nice and was sharing his box of chocolates for everyone in the cafe today – getting into the xmas spirit. Thank you for this nice experience!
Spacious warehouse style cafe with really interesting menu. To start tried the Mont Blanc coffee which was a shot of espresso topped with creme caramel. Then I went for the scrambled eggs. Despite the multitude of components I felt that the scrambled eggs lacked a lot of flavour. Having said that they were still nice. The pancakes also looked impressive and a perfect portion size.
Louis Fitzroy. It is a 4.5 out of 5 to me. It is located in the popular Fitzroy area and nicely designed with Louis color. They are famous for their coffee and yes definitely one of the best coffee I had in Melbourne. Highly recommended. It was a nice dining experience with great service and friendly staff. I can tell that they want to provide quality coffee with good food and definitely recommend for brunch dining.

The definition of a hidden gem- literally! Cafe Louis, tucked away in the pocket of Moor Street certainly deserves much more attention that it has currently received. With the friendliest owner and staff who are welcoming from the outset, you can’t help but WANT to support such a positive and joyful establishment.
Today we ordered the popular Benny and the burger. The Benny consisted of a beautifully cooked pulled pork matched with poached eggs, some slaw and potato croquettes underneath. The flavour? Outstanding. The sauces, egg, and pork all mixed together perfectly for a tender melt in your mouth taste that is very unique to its dish. The burger was a Korean fried chicken with coleslaw, and had some of the creamiest sauces we have ever had, matched with a butter soft bun and delicious chicken. What we loved about the dishes was just how unique in flavour each was. Whilst the Benny packed flavours in the meat and croquettes, the Burgers juicyness was the key.
If you are a student at ACU, or are passing by the growingly popular area of Fitzroy, stop by here for a wonderful brunch experience. Highly recommend trying the Benny. We will be back soon to try the salmon!

Nice cafe tucked in on the side of Brunswick street away from the hustle and bustle.
A great space to catch up on some work or catch up with friends.
Along with a smoothe cafe latte to start we enjoyed an Asian fusion of a very generous serve of Green chilli scrambled eggs with spanish pesto, manchego, caramelised onions, cherry tomatoes and bacon.
The Dorayaki pancakes filled with banana butter, brled banana,
coconut pandan whipped cream, toasted
coconut flakes, and pistachio di bronte gelato was beatiful to look at but were also light and fluffy too. My favourite was the Pulled pork with pickled cabbage,
poached eggs and sriracha bernaise on
croquettes a dish I have not tried anywhere before.
We also sampled the drip coffee for the day it was such a delight for all the coffee lovers out there!
Thanks for the invite.
