My partner and I decided to go to this casual but professional sake bar. And what a delight it was.I started w a sweet potato amber ale called Coedo which I haven’t seen before and it was malty, and really good. The Japanese are so inventive and this might be a gluten free beer. We ordered some really yummy sake, which tasted like Granny Smith green apples, well of only to me hahaha. Foodwise we ordered a LOT of food. To be honest I didn’t order so it was more of a feed me menu, but here are some of the highlights. The sashimi was excellent, fresh and a nice selection of fish. And the presentation was really well done. Our gyozas were pan fried and soo delicate, spicy and soft. Just perfect. The boneless Japanese Fried Chicken or JFC was superb, it was really well cooked, but still moist on the inside with a crunchy exterior. Yummo. Our yakatori was great, 3 different flavours and served w a spicy dry seasoning. The salmon sashimi was fresh, it had an amazing flavour, it was fatty and some if the best fresh salmon that I’ve had in some time. The tuna tartare just melted in my mouth, and it was slightly seared and memorable lol. Soo good. There may have been other dishes but overall despite the copious amount of food we ate and continued to order we left feeling light and totally satisfied. What a wonderful night. This place is definitely worth a visit. Oh and I really liked the old record player and the music was fun too.
It’s not a bad place, but staff are not very knowledgeable about the menu. The food is ok, wouldn’t say it’s exceptional. There’s quite a few japanese restaurants around Melbourne that seem to hit the mark a bit more.
Had the curry – a massive, delicious portion for lunch. Seating for large groups a bit awkward/cramped. Fried chicken not so great. Overall – good food and friendly staff, I would go back.
