Total dive bar with overpriced drinks. Far darker and dirtier than its pictures here suggest. But if you are wanting a piece of authentic Footscray: this is it. The friendly repeat locals and its staff bring a charm and warmth despite its grunginess. Keep those expectations low, your drinks filled, avoid the food and enjoy it for what it is.
I love going here on Tuesday nights for $2 tacos with one of my local friends. Lovely atmosphere, amazing tacos & very friendly staff that are easy on the eye.
Some friends were visiting from the UK recently, and they wanted to drink at an authentic Footscray pub, so naturally I suggested the Dancing Dog. It was a Monday evening and when we turned up, there was an ambulance parked out the front with a guy being stretchered out of the pub… at 7pm.
With its selection of three crappy beers and stale bar snacks, this place won’t be getting a write up in Broadsheet any time soon, but that’s missing the point of the Dancing Dog. This place has turned alcoholism into an art form.

One of the best bar/cafes in Melbourne! Had a great time! Great beer! The owner Ben was nothing short of awesome! The pizza and muffin were good! Absolutely a must visit in Footscray!
Nice hip in the western suburb with pretty decent selection of craft beers. They have acoustic live music , standup comedy, etc.. Definitely a good hipster hangout in footscray
Good wifi, great place to work and chill. Coffee reasonable. Pizza on pita bread didn’t really do it for me. Open early in the day, which is really nice.
Woof!. Great place for a coffee & muffin during the day and a beer at night. 5 stars for the young team of staff that make the place!
