The landscape (or rather, food-scape) of Footscray is fast changing, and the landing of Pie Thief is yet another sign that things in the inner western suburb are shifting. But I do have a soft spot for a good pie and pastry, so this I don’t mind too much. Their pies come in several flavours, with party pie-sized versions also available if you’re indecisive and can’t choose between all the tasty-sounding flavours.

Pie Thief is very quaint and cute and offers am interesting selection of standard size and mini pies. The options rotate regularly and may sell out, so don’t be disappointed if they don’t have what you want. I tried the (off menu) veggie massaman pie which was rich, sweet and spicy with lots of peanut flavour. I also got a cold Milo which was fine but a bit bland. Service was not the friendliest but generally everything was pretty good.
