The positives are that the space is very bright and airy. Definitely a cafe cornering the market in Footscray. The menu is simple but well seasoned, the eggs florentine is dressed with fantastic hollandaise, the eggs poached to perfection. Obviously not tying to break any boundaries but definitely trying to offer solid simple cafe fair with a leaning towards simple lunch dishes, osso-buco making an appearance. Unfortunately the haloumi and rsti were a disappointment. The rsti was well seasoned but had been cooked to the point where the potato texture was lost. It was more a mashed potato cake. The haloumi was inedible, cut into a thick chunk cold in the middle and so salty I took one bite and left It to the side. Inedible. Unfortunately the inedible haloumi is a matter of taste as I was told and Im in the wrong hense I found I was charged for It. Unfortunately. Plus a hot long black was passed over the head of my baby which is really not appropriate.
I absolutely love the concept Rudimentary brings the caf is designed with a shipping container as a base, but everything else retrofitted. The use of natural woods and large windows allow plenty of light to come in.
An element of sustainability also comes into play with large rainwater tanks, and the coffee grounds being re-used as compost for the beautiful edible gardens.
The gardens allow the chefs to be creative, and you will find the menu is very seasonal.
The waffles were delicious the roasted figs were nicely caramelised, and the bacon was extremely crisp. Good balance of flavours, carried by the waffle.
Coffee was also very good, the latte was quite balanced and almost chocolately, and the milk was tightly steamed.
The ambiance and vibe at Rudimentary is perfect for chilling out on sunny days.

Beautiful place to hang out on a sunny day.. we stopped by for a cuppa after breakfast and chilled for the morning.. being a container convert it was filled with hipsters and people looking for coffee.. there was also seating outside with a fake lawn, milk crates and wooden logs that one can huddle around.. they also have a little vege garden at the back of the cafe as well.. coffee wasnt that impressive though was a bit milky for my liking..
