Admittedly our visit was late in the day, about an hour before the restaurant closed, but the grilled chicken I received was horrendous – it was bone dry and felt as though it must have been cooked, then sat in the kitchen drying out in a bane marie for 5-7 hours – blegh
Place is gross, food is ok, service is terrible is you don’t speak Viet. The lunch deal is a fake and I won’t be returning again. There other places that are so much better.
Found a hair in my food and notified the owner. The owner proceeded to go around to the other tables asking if they had any issue and made a big fuss. Food wasn’t even that great and the restaurant in general was very dirty. Absolutely disgusting.
They have recorded a video about this situation and i 100% sure it completely accurate with the video. They treated these customers like trash. As A Vietnamese, a future chef may be an owner of a restaurant, i dont wish to see these behaviors toward customers that is so unprofessional and disrespectful. The last time I went to Star Restaurant in Footscray, I found a caterpillar inside the iceburg lettuce. Then this time there were tiny green lettuce bugs, which I asked the waitress nicely to change it to a new lettuce. Then one of the owner just come over making a big deal, saying that all his lettuce from the supermarket is the same, he washed it with salt water and if there are bugs then just remove it and continue eating as there’s nothing else he can do as all the lettuce is the same. Then as I was about to take a photo of the lettuce and the bugs, the owner removed it from my hand and took it away. He said if there is any issues, just call up the council, or he will call them up himself. He said he has been trading for years and there was never an issue like this before. Well I guess I’ll be the first to bring it up. Then he told me, Zoe & Elaine to leave as they’re now refusing service saying we are too difficult and picky.
Prior to the video I’m posting, the owner took the lettuce to all the tables in the restaurant to ask other customers to inspect saying that there is nothing wrong with it. He started talking loudly, making it a big deal. All I wanted was for the lettuce to be change. Then another staff member threw us a business card and reminded us to call the council, saying they’ll bring out the lettuce when someone comes. For my non Vietnamese friends, in this video I’m posting, the owner told me that he is now refusing to speak to me as I am just a kid and he’s an adult, I do not have the right to speak to him anymore and that I need to bring an adult to continue this convo. This is ridiculous because I am a customer. I remained my cool the entire time, but obviously the owners at Star Restaurant are not. I have eaten here for more than 10yrs now with my family and never have I experienced this sort of service. I am posting this to let all my friends and peers know not to dine here as clearly their food is not prepared accordingly to OH&S regulation and their service is the worse in history.
Horrible dining experience. I had complained about dirty cutlery (dirt on the plate) and was abused by the owner saying they have never had this issue before. Owner made a scene and harassed other customers asking if they have any issues. Food was also soggy (what I got to taste before noticing the dirt on the plates)
Perfect for violent diarrhoea the next day and you wanna pull a sickie for work, but even then it’s probably not worth it for the terrible customer service. Plenty of other great Vietnamese restaurants around Footscray.
COME HERE FOR the Vietnamese experience. The Venison specialty is where you fry your own sliced venison on a portable mini hot plate, then add it with vegies to make your own rice paper rolls. The flavours of the chicken salad was tasty too
BUT this isnt for everyone. Think authentic, ie very little English spoken (but there is an English menu), semi-run down decor and chicken that may contain offcuts. Pricing was fairly expensive, costing $18 for chicken salad, and $35 for the venison fry up.
OVERALL it is worth a visit if you are looking for something a bit different from the pho experience in footscray. Just be prepared for an authentic experience at the steeper end of pricing
