My score 4 stars. J & I had lunch here last Friday after having a failed attempt at a place nearby. We had: Vinhs Spring rolls as a lunch special (2 for $6) > Just ok. They had chicken in them, so I had both of them. They were quite big, a bit oily, & some of the filling was escaping – dipping sauce was VERY sweet. Prawn-meat stuffed eggplant, capsicum & bean curd Clay pot rice > Hao Phongs version of this is one of my fav dishes of all time. It didnt measure up to HPs, but was still quite good & great value. Chock a block with prawn mince & apart from the eggplant/capsicum, it had quite a few other veg (some different again to our other main). Downsides (compared to HP – I’m being picky) were: Mince was very slightly fishy, black bean sauce could have been more intense, fresh coriander was distracting rather than integrated, rice had no crispy/smoky base. Vegetable, chilli & lemongrass Clay pot rice > Overflowing with veg (J counted 11 diff types), this was great! Strong lemongrass flavour, yummy bean curd, good chilli heat, nice gravy. Only downside was same problem with the rice & a little more bean curd would have made it even better. A vego lovers/omnivores delight! Staff were nice, a few communication issues with one waiter, but all sorted easily. Overall pretty damn good & main meals very good value! Will be back to try more things, as Im sure we can find more jewels here at bargain prices
