I have tried lunch special and dinner there and findit disappointing at the very least.
# Serving size is small for $12
# Despite being covered in thick sauces, all the dishes taste bland when you take a bite
# All you can taste is the spices & hotness from the chilli sauce
# The light & heat of the food cabinet were actually kept off until someone comes to order (to cut down energy cost?) resulting in the food being already cold when served
# The owner lady doesn’t seem to be friendly to her customers
# The overall experience in the restaurant is unwelcoming
The low quality & small serving size of the food makes it very poor value for money. For $1.50 extra you can get a full bowl of noodle soup (choice of curry laksa soup/tom yum soup/chicken soup) or rice with 1/4 roast duck at a nearby restaurant with better atmosphere, welcoming wait staff & better presented and tastier food from a professional trained chef. The $12 I have paid is fast becoming the worst spent money which I will regret for quite a while.
I love this place. Everything here is made by Aunty, even the complimentary cookies she had baked the day we dined there. The nasi lemak was great (much better than PappaRich), and the otak-otak (not pictured) was a winner! It was the first time I’d tried it, and it was a delicacy. All the dishes available in the bain-marie was good too. Thanks, Aunty 🙂
Had the nasi lemak here and ordered fried chicken, ikan bakar, bergedil and otak on the side. The okak was seriously good. On the steep side for $5 but I would pay for it. The ikan bakar was very dry and overcooked but the sambal on it was very spicy and nice. The nasi lemak was nice but sambal for the nasi lemak was a little sour – I like mine sweet and spicy and flavourful – this seemed a little weak. Rice was fluffy though. Will go back and try their lontong and satay next time.
Friendly service, best to come early before the food sells out. Nasi Lemak is delicious and the sambal is spicy. You can order in advance by calling the shop if you want to do takeaway.
This very casual restaurant offers a limited selection of really delicious food. You need to go with the flow to enjoy this place, have a chat with the lady owner and take her advice on what to order. Just pretend she is your Aunty, you have dropped around for a quick meal and enjoy the delicious food on offer. Otherwise you will end up frustrated and confused!!
In my travels to Singapore and her neighbour, Malaysia, I’m pretty familiar with traditional Malay cuisine so you can imagine my excitement when I fast came across this place. Translated as ‘original Singaporean appetite’, I had high expectations of the menu offering. Given that we are very spoilt for choice with the copious number of decent Malaysia/Singaporean restaurants here the bar has has been set high. The plus side is upon walking in, you get full view of the kitchen and the aunties preparing your meal in front of you. Provenance comes to mind but unfortunately for me, the flavours seemed a bit lacklustre. I would have loved for a stronger, bolder, no-holds-barred rendition of dishes. My personal gripe was the serving size – could be a bit more generous.
Came here for lunch and was quite underwhelmed. We were expecting bolder flavours but found the food quite bland. I got rice with curry drumstick eggplant and red beef currywhile my girlfriend got the satay set and mee goreng. Not one of the dishes was memorable.
