Amazing atmosphere great service and excellent coffees beautiful food great place for your next catch up with friends and a great location as well right in the heart of Geelong
Bean & Bear is a humble cafe located in Geelong that serves great coffee and hearty feel good food in a comforting modern setting. Upon entering this great establishment walking through the small outside seating area to enter the cafe, the inside feels like an old shack brought to life through friendly staff and creative furnishing. The interior features seating options for multiple occupants with additional seating in the form of homestyle couches next to old school coffee tables ideal for coffee catch ups.
I happened to be in Geelong and was in need of a late lunch after a morning exploring. Bear and bean looked inviting as it was quite and as we entered we where told that the kitchen closed in 5 minutes so if we wanted food we ought to hurry. Flustered we glanced and the menu and ordered in a hurry hardly having time to read the delicious assortment of dishes on offer.
Ordering in haste we went for the safe options of the loaded toast with smashed avo with an added poached egg along with the granola and refreshments of an iced cold orange juice and a long black. We paid at the counter straight away and took up seats to finally sit and relax waiting to enjoy some decent food. The waiter arrived shortly with the OJ and the long black and we where left to it take in the peaceful atmosphere. The bottled OJ was nice and refreshing with the bonus of it coming with a glass of ice on the side making it extra chilled which was pleasing. The long black was very, very good. The brew was thick and acidic with palatable vanilla undertones with a great overall texture.
Before we knew it our meals arrived looking gorgeous. The loaded toast on sourdough featured smashed avocado, lime, pickled radish, rocket, Zaatar spices with the addition of a single poached egg was a decent dish but not outstanding. The sourdough was too hard and crusty making is nearly impossible to cut. The generous amount of avocado was satisfying and seasoned well with lovely aromatic Zaatar. The poached egg sadly didnt feature any oozy yolk pawn as it was overcooked and a bit dry :(. The lime and pickled radish benefited the meal but still it wasnt anything special.
The granola on the other hand was flawless. Amelias macadamia and cranberry granola with natural yoghurt, fruit, honey and cinnamon with my choice of almond milk was a filling delicate dish. The yoghurt was nice and tart and super thick just how I like it. The granola was packed with large clusters of maple toasted oats, littered with nuts and dried fruits covered in spicy cinnamon and chai that flavoured the milk when combined. The diverse selection of fruits composed of dragonfruit, mango, citrus segments and berries added sweetness balancing out yummy dish.
Bear and Bean is a cute spot for coffee or a lunch catch up. The staff are great and the food is decent. If your not in a hurry like we where other items on there menu sound pretty tasty to and if I happened to be in the area again at least I know where to find a solid coffee.
Cute little outlet with a nice hipster atmosphere. From the vegan lens, there were a few options but they were limited to the leaf-kind variety. Namely, there was a salad and a bowl. The Buddha Bowl included a delicious hummus but was lacking in flavour elsewhere, being a little too doused with oil for my liking. That being said, the wait staff were lovely which really contributed to an overall positive experience.
Great coffee! Possibly the best I’ve had in Geelong!
I came here for a brunch and had mushroom on toast which was lovely. Perfect amount of feta and all of it tasted great. The avocado wasn’t ripe yet so that was annoying. Otherwise can’t really complain, it filled me up and I will return for coffee!
Perfect service! Friendly staff make eating breakfast or lunch very relaxing.
The food is amazing and at a very good price, if you’re in the area pop in for a coffee, you won’t be disappointed.
Hands down, best coffee in Geelong. Paler breakfast also divine and bursting with flavour. Staff are attentive and decor is open, bright and funky. Highly recommend
