People, please be careful and check what you have ordered before paying, especially at their Geelong restaurant! They tried to rip us off!!

My partner and I visited their Geelong restaurant for dinner tonight. We shared Fisherman’s Basket ($36.90), and my partner had a pot of tea ($3.80) and I enjoyed my Fanta Spider (price unknown as it wasn’t on the menu).

Afterwards, we have to pay cash (just over $79) because their ANZ EFTPOS terminal is down. While walking to our car, we have decided to return to the restaurant (around 8.50pm) and ask for the bill as we have never received one at first place.

The female staff at the counter seems a little uneasy. We waited at the front counter (beside entrance door) while she consulted another female staff at the bar a couple times. She then refunded $25 to us.

We left the restaurant and still feel that something is not right. Does The Groove Train charges over $13 for Fanta Spider (drink)?

$79 minus $25 (cash refund) less $36.90 (Fisherman’s Basket) less $3.80 (a pot of tea) = $13.30! This must be the most expensive Fanta Spider that I have ever come across!

Oh, we still curious what’s on the bill?

Big menu, but very over priced for not very great quality. Only three staff were working by the look of it. Food seemed to come out very quick which was great because we were hungry! No cutlery or napkins were given to us when give our food, we had to ask. We ordered a burger and a focaccia. Focaccia was delicious but burger was GROSS! Patty was so dry and was clearly just heated up in the microwave and was drenched in mustard. Will definitely not be going back, very disappointed… Sorry!

Very cosy place for a nice dinner, friendly staff and service. Food was well seasoned and hearty . Dessert was delicious and appealing. We had the Rib Eye Steak with roasted potato and mushroom sauce the sauce was a bit salty considering the steak and potato had heaps of flavour. The beef cheeks were salty as well and the portion was small considering it was a main course, perfect portion of mash and beans. We also had the kids portion of Spagetti bolognese very yummy. Overall a nice night and we were pretty full.

I went to the Geelong restaurant for my 14th or 15th birthday (can’t remember) and I had the souvlaki and I was amazed when my souvlaki bread didn’t break. I recently went to the new Waurn Ponds store in March and I loved my food except I forgot to ask for no coriander and I almost died but that was my fault. Extremely good service and a fun atmosphere! 🙂

Spacious family rastaurant. Service is promt with friendly staff. Had Buffallo Magheritta pizza. It was large enough for 2 people ( females), there are bits of cheeses which is a bit salty. Pizza is very soft in the middle but the sides are firm (not too dry/crispy). It would be better if there are more cheeses. The eggplant chips comes with a dipping sauce (creamy), crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. Eggplant chip was quite good but serving is quite small for $13.

Lunched here today at around 11:30am & chose their Fettuccine Carbonara at $20.90 followed by a dessert of Chocolate Ripple Cake at $7.50 (2 large courses under $30 = good value). The Carbonara was served steaming hot and within 10 minutes of ordering (although I was their first lunch meal customer) and was truly tasty on my palate with the creaminess making it beautiful & moist. The dessert was very rich in flavour & the cream & a few strawberries set it off (I couldn’t eat it all so I brought it home in a supplied container to finish being eaten later). Service provision was excellent by the 2 young waitresses Molly & Milana – both had a cheerful welcoming approach and ensured my dining experience was a pleasant one, the ambiance was comfortable with the vocal pop music at a level that could only just be heard.

The Juror’s Verdict: Food 4.5/5, Service Provision 4.5/5, Will I return: Yes definitely

hmmmm, yeah I’d say this place is not bad.
Actually, it is what you would expect for the type of restaurant it is.
It is not high-end diningand the quality of the food represents that. It is probably on par of some of the pubs around Geelong, the only difference is that you know what you are getting here, in terms of ambience, service, atmosphere, and I guess food quality.

My daughter got a kids beef hamburger and although 3 she said she didn’t like it and I kind of don’t blame here, as it looked very ordinary.

My wife got a club sandwich, and although I haven’t asked her yet how it was, it did look very good.

I ordered a seafood risotto (which for the record, I was not going to, but the waitress said that the risottos were good). As you will see in the photo, it looked pretty average, but I will have to admit it was actually not bad. I wouldn’t kill for it, but I would still give it a 7/10.

All in all, as I said at the start, the place is as you would expect it to be. Will I go back…..hmmmm, maybe not, just because there are many other restaurants in Geelong that I think just try and put in a bit more effort and aren’t run as a production.

But in saying that, I am a little unique in that way, I do know a lot of people that would love a place like this where you can go in and know exactly what you are going to get, regardless who the head chef or waitress are that month / year.
