Great little cafe in a very sleepy area of glen iris. It has a bright and airy decor. We were welcomed and seated promptly. (I hate being kept waiting when the tables are not cleared and theres seating available). My companion had the poke bowl which was very healthy and delicious. I ordered the miso eggplant with mushrooms. A really very well balanced dish. The coffee was good.
Golden Child Caf is a cute caf slap bang in the suburbs on Bardolph Street, Glen Iris, right behind Burwood Station. Its a favourite caf in the local community plus gathering more popularity further away and its not difficult to see why. The food and service here are spectacular.
The caf is spacious and open with a minimum focus on the decor but maximum attention on delivering a very warm and friendly atmosphere. At Golden Child outside seating is available on the street front or out the back in a small cosy courtyard filled with plants and greenery.
The menu is huge and varied with lots of dishes to choose from and an extensive range of beverages as well. It was so very hard to decide what to order as it all sounded so good! After much discussion, we ordered the Atlantic Salmon, the Zucchini fritters, the Halloumi Salad, and the Fried Chicken with Pancakes. For drinks, we had a Hempe Latt and the Red Juice.
When the food came out we were stunned at how beautiful the dishes were portrayed so well assembled and presented, they were just too good to eat! But we did!! The food was fresh and vibrant and every morsel was a party in my mouth! The salmon, so pretty on the plate with lots of colour, was cooked perfectly and the addition of the crumpets was great, albeit a bit unusual. The fritters were just as youd want them crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. It was served with an equally well cooked poached egg. The halloumi, asparagus and carrot salad was tasty, fresh and well balanced with the salty halloumi. Roti crisps just finished it off delightfully.
One of the standouts for me was the Fried Chicken on pancakes! Have you ever heard of such a thing? I hadnt so I was delighted when trying it I found it to be so full of flavour and appetising, simply scrumptious. Our drinks were superb, especially the Hempe Latt with coconut milk which I believe is becoming a very popular trend. The Red juice contained raspberries, carrot, orange, beetroot and coconut water and whoever thought of this combination is a genius! It is totally refreshing and astonishingly aromatic.
All in all, this was an awesome dining experience and with no hesitation, its definitely somewhere Id recommend for everyone including kids as there is also a great kids menu. You can even bring your dog! My only suggestion would be for them to invest in a website to show off all their amazing dishes. If youre not the Golden Child in your family, recommending this cafe to them might just make you the Golden Child after all!
