Really enjoyed dining at this establishment.
The service was prompt and professional.
The food was fresh and delicious. Perfect evening. We ordered oysters to start and they were excellent. The barramundi was well seasoned and cooked wonderfully.
I have heard glowing reports for years and finally make it for lunch. We chose from the limited albeit interesting lunch menu. My two courses, calamari followed by duck were excellent, well cooked, presented and balanced. Recommend.
I have just heard (Oct 17), that there are new owners here. I hope they are as accomodating.
A great local that’s inviting to all. The service was superb and made you feel welcome, even on our first trip here on a busy Friday evening where we were sat downstairs. We had the duck confit and the melt in your mouth beef cheek with a side of the beetroot salad (a must) and some broccolini with oyster sauce. We finished the evening with the amazingly creamy and perfectly crack hard Creme Brle and a chocolate and raspberry mouse – elegantly presented and packed full of flavour to blow the pallet away, both deserts treaded that fine line between hitting the sweet spot and not being overpowering perfectly!
Flavour, size and presentation were all spot on and in line with some of Melbourne’s fine dining experiences in our view. We had a great evening and even used the entertainment card discount which was accepted and applied without any fuss.
The only minor comment would be that the smart mirrors and white room made it a little ‘bland or stark’ and perhaps a little noisy with nothing to soak up the general discussions happening- but that certainly didn’t spoil the nights experience.
Overall a great place for a meal out with a partner or a small group of friends.
The shop decor was sleek and classic. Love it.
Presentation of dishes was excellent, service was ok, and plenty of off street parking available. Not many places offer BYO now, but Preserve Kitchen still has it with a modest corkage charge.
We came to Preserve Kitchen midweek to celebrate a family members birthday. It was a warm night enjoyed the walk from the train. We arrived slightly early and discovered that this place was BYO with a very reasonable corkage charge so proceeded to acquire some of our favourite wines from the bottle shop up the road. Other guests still hadn’t arrived so we enjoyed cocktails in the rear courtyard until the others got there. The place was buzzing downstairs when we finally got seated. The interior was quite minimalistic but classic and comfortable. I was excited by the menu which had many items I wanted to try. As a table we chose to share a few things and get seperate mains which was easily done. I did fear food envy as some of the other dishes arrived before mine. However i need not have worried as I had the beef which was thick cut and fall apart tender. Having said that my second pick would have been the lamb shoulder which also looked delicious. A general comment would be that servings were on the smaller side for the price. I had the apple and rhubarb (pet) crumble for dessert which is one of my go to dessert options. (I judge a place by either how well they cook their rhubarb or how pucker worthy their lemon curd tastes). In this instance their rhubarb dessert hit the mark. As a family we talked for hours and waiting staff were happy to just continue to occasionally water us and let us leave at our own time. In fact we were the last to leave so had quite the night.
Not sure if it’s worth mentioning but Preserve Kitchen is still in the entertainment book for the 2017/18 edition for those who have this book. We had three cards which made our night over $100 cheaper… just saying.
This restaurant keeps getting better & better. Had an excellent lunch with family recently. Every dish we had at the table was really well done and very tasty. Service was excellent and pricing was very reasonable. Would highly recommend this restaurant for an excellent meal.
Booked well in advance, but on arrival taken to a table upstairs with no atmosphere. downstairs was buzzing, upstairs…snooze. Menu a little bit limited for choice, but food was well executed and hot. Wine selection good. Apparently first in gets the best tables, so Seinfeld’s parents rejoice!
