If you come to China Bar, you should know what to expect by now. It might be a quick lunch, or a late night eat, but you get a cheap and relatively satisfying meal (depending on what you order).* Two roast on rice – what could go wrong? Very safe bet and I’m surprised at the meaty portions of duck they served up. The roast pork still had a bit of crackle to it, and was chased down with a bit of rice doused in the herbal light soy sauce.* Wonton beef brisket noodle soup – huge portion of egg noodles in a light broth. The brisket had the hell cooked out of it so it was soft and gelatinous. The wontons were exactly like the pork and shrimp siu mai I also ordered, but in a different shape. Meaty, plump and excellent with a bit of the smokey chilli oil condiment.
Be aware that apparently now you cannot bring external drinks into this China Bar. We found this out the hard way and consequently had to find another place to eat. Considering all the new tea franchises and what not in their vicinity I don’t know how they’ll make any profit from customers – if anything I know it’s going to deter me from visiting here again.
When you need to find a place that opens late night in Glen Waverly, this is probably your only option. It’s not the best compared to other asian restaurants but it works well for a late night meal.
We ordered 3 noodle dishes for dinner. The portion is good. The quality of the food was not even average. Noodle are too salty, we have to dip them in water in order to eat it. Wontons have a weird texture and flavour. When relate our dishes to the waitress there was no reaction. Won’t recommend anyone to come here.
