Only one month open and yet Pho 97 seems to have bedded itself in nicely providing flavoursome Vietnamese dishes with a cool tunes and really friendly waiting staff. The one page menu has a heap of variety and also the odd special of two to help mix it up.

Tonight we started with a classic Vietnamese drink that out waiting staff admitted to growing up with. The three colour drink came with shaved ice, pandan, mung bean and red bean all swimming in a sweet coconut. Like a layered trifle in a cup with some amazing textures going on.

For entree we had the chicken and prawn spring rolls with all the trimmings, the Nem Nuong (Honey glazed pork balls) and the special prawn and pork dumplings in a chilli oil sauce. The absolute standout was the Nem Nuong which was full of flavour and juicy and was amazing wrapped up in lettuce with fresh mint. We had this dish recommended to us and so glad we tried it. I also really loved the chilli oil dumplings which had a satisfying chilli kick.

For mains we just had to try the pho and I chose the rare beef. The biggest of bowls arrived with a medium intensity of flavoured broth, shoots, basil, plus fresh chilli and lemon juice which I gladly added. I slurped this amazing dish up but it was so big I couldnt finish it.

The lemon chicken bun bowl had amazing lemongrass flavoured chicken, vermicelli, fried shallots, fresh veggies and peanuts and the pour over sauce packed good flavour also. I only got to try a little of this as my wife took ownership of the dish and declared this her favourite. Im sure she will be back for this dish in the future.

Our last main was a goodie also. The salt and pepper crumbled chicken ribs were Pho 97s fried chicken option and came with fresh salad and red rice which both accompanied the pepper and
chilli coatings on the chicken nicely. Some seriously delicious chicken on this plate.

We really enjoyed the freshness and flavours of the dishes we tried tonight and the kitchen turn around time was impressive especially considering how short a time Pho 97 has been open for. Would definitely recommend.

Thanks so much for inviting us in.

Late Sep: Had a simple takeaway again as the previous experience is really good. Still love them 2nd time around.
Early Sep:We order takeaway and are pleasantly surprised, all food tasted good. Some food may be a bit saltier than my preference, but my friends and family had a wonderful dinner.

I had a good meal with my friend here last night. Flavour in the pho was nice, and a good serving size too. The spring rolls were good, but I wish we got served more than 5. Also ordered the 3 colour drink (not photographed), which had good flavour too. Staff took a while to serve us, but other than that, overall good experience.

Came here for lunch with my partner. We contemplated the pho but decided to try the banh canh cua (crab noodle soup) and broken rice.
My partner didnt seem to like the crab noodle soup as such, leaving a third of noodles behind saying that the soup wasnt hearty flavour as it should be. He alao got it as a lunch set which included springrolls and a vietnamese iced coffee. Iced coffee was perfect balance of sweetness and aromatic coffee. The springrolls were a bit dissapointing with just two placed on a plate with not lettuce or dipping sauce. When my broken rice came out, i personally didnt like idea of soup bowl being placed on my food plate. It qas also missing the nuoc mam (dipping sauce). When i asked the waiter for fish sauce, i was given then the pure fish sauce in a bowl. Guess i cant complain too much because i got given what i asked but i thought a vietnamese establishment would know what condiments are generally served with what dish. The actual quality of dish was average, nothing stand out enough, expecially i felt like the pork chop and meatloaf lacked a lot of flavour.
Overall it wasnt bad and we may come back if we ever craved vietnamese food enough not to drive to springvale.

This place is decent if you’re craving for pho or broken rice. I’m giving it 3 stars based on the overall price and food quality. The place is located in Glen Waverley and there are many good and cheap Vietnamese restaurants around the area. I just think it’s not competitive enough apart from its location and the restaurant ambience.

We decided to try the place out today. We got the lemongrass pork vermicelli and the minced pork vermicelli. They came with spring rolls and salad which were presented well and tasted good. The lemongrass pork tasted better than the mince pork. A downside is that we wished they served a bigger portion of meat. We also got the spicy buffalo chicken wings which only came with 2 pieces and salad for $9 so it was expensive and passable.

It was a Saturday morning at 11.10am and already this place was starting to fill up!
We were met by a surly waitress who probably required a mild attitude adjustment. Loved the one page menu – simple yet has all the regular suspects.
The spring rolls were meaty and well fried. The noodles were almost perfect and we loved the tasty soups – both the beef and spicy bun bo hue versions.
The background music was great. The decor was warm and attractive.
My one other gripe was the lack of satay sauce on the tables – a must for me when I have pho.
So all in all, the food was good enough for me to want to return in the near future and the negatives were all cosmetic.
P.S. – the front of house staff are super important guys. First impressions count.
