a secret. As Secret Kitchen returns after being changed to Wonton Kitchen previously, its traditional Cantonese and Yum Cha dishes comes back better than before. Ordering multiple dishes, each were created in traditional fashion; the aroma sizzling of the hot pot, the perfect flavours of the sauces, portions were generous, dishes come out quickly and the textures of the meat and vegetables was love at first bite. With helpful staff confident in both English and Chinese languages, service was attentive despite being a full-house. The ambiance is average as it is located within a walkway with pedestrians passing by despite being enclosed by fence, Not by any faults to the restaurant and staff but my only tip is to try and avoid seats closest to the back doors as the scent of cigarette smokers can blow in (if you wish to avoid smoke).
Good Yum Cha place and the food are quite good. Best to come in a larger group so you will get to try lotsa of food. The Zha liang ( Fried dough and rice rolls) is really fresh and the rice rolls are really nice and soft. Try their melting custard buns (with cookie top) and their mango mochi, my kids love them. Food for old and young. Must prebook on weekends to avoid long waits.
Having never been to Secret Kitchen before, I had some high expectations for the place as my colleagues had hyped it up quite a bit. Sadly, I was a little disappointed with the whole experience, but Ive put it down to this specific Glen Waverley Secret Kitchen, rather than the whole chain itself.
Location wise, we thought it was quite poor, and certainly brought it down a notch with the casual dining setting. However the food was satisfying. We ordered a number of steamed dishes that were fresh and enjoyable. The deep fried beancurd prawn roll was a little on the greasy side but nevertheless tasty.
Our main problem was the waiting time for the trolleys to come by. Being seated towards the end might have also contributed to the issue, but whenever the carts did come around, there was not much variety to choose from, and the trolleys were mostly empty.
Overall we found the food good, but our dining experience was probably not worth the hefty price that we had to pay for.

Walked past this place after movie night in Glen, got enticed by their late night special of Peking duck and fried dumplings for around $30, and I just couldn’t resist the temptation of crispy duck skin and hoisin sauce. However when a deal sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
While the venue looks very enticing thanks to its accessible layout, the taste of the food certainly wasn’t (at least at night). The wrap used in Peking duck was mushy and easily torn, and tasted like wet sand, while the meat was probably leftover, the skin had already lost its crispiness. The experience was made worse by their dumplings, as they were served all ripped open and mangled at the bottom, whatever meat juice they held had leaked already.
Lastly we ordered the scallop fried rice with egg (around $30), it had barely any egg, let alone scallop, just mostly rice with no taste.
I have been to quite a few Secret Kitchen around Melbourne, this one is by far the worst. Then again, their yum cha seem pretty good by looking at other reviews, so go at your own risk.

This is always our go-to for yum cha when we are in Glen Waverley or the SE suburbs. Food is always consistently fresh and good, service is friendly and attentive unlike some Hong Kong yum cha places that could be arrogant and hassled. Seatings are limited – so if you are coming during weekends and public holidays, bookings are strongly recommended!
