I enjoyed my experience at Mr and Mrs Anderson. The service was extremely quick and there were a few quirky things on the menu. The food was good, and the layout of the restaurant is super cute as well.
Mr & Mrs Anderson has an ideal corner spot on Tooronga Road in Hawthorn East. Opposite the schools & sports ground its a popular place for parents in search of coffee & food. The interior is sleek & streamlined but with lots of personality too. I loved the modern wood paneling down one side and a wall of hand painted tiles imported from Mexico.
We started with coffees which were strong and rich & ordered a few dishes to share. The menu is really creative & we were excited to try some different dishes.
I ordered the pork belly Benedict, served with Yorkshire pudding, flamed pineapple, Tabasco & apple spritz hollandaise. The presentation was impressive & the pork belly was perfectly cooked. The flavours worked so well together & it was a delicious take on a Benny.
My friend ordered the confit chicken & cauliflower salad. It was a filling salad with buckwheat couscous, sprouted grains & cumin labne. It was loaded with flavour & a lovely lunch dish.
We finished with the Japanese souffl pancake served with brled pineapple, coconut jam, wattleseed caramel & passionfuit gelato. This dish was stunning! Amazing flavours & the soft souffl pancake was complimented by the other elements on the plate & the sorbet was so refreshing. We really loved this dish & the plating was also impressive.
If youre looking for some creative dishes in a relaxed setting, Id highly recommend heading to Mr & Mrs Anderson. Thanks so much for having us.
**3.5 stars** Okay, right off the bat, I just want to say how much I loved this one particular waiter who made my friends and I feel so welcome. If only there were more staff members like him at other cafes. Our brunch experience started instantly on the right foot. We came at a busy time over the weekend and so there were no available seats inside. We sat outside and ordered our drinks first. Our friendly waiter came to check on us every few minutes to reassure us that our table inside would soon be available. Less than 10 minutes waiting outside the cold, we were moved inside and given prompt table service by him. The atmosphere inside was bright, roomy and cozy. The coffee was delicious and my friend seemed to like her earl tea with milk. Food wise, my friends pancake, caramel, ice-cream could do no wrong – all the flavours worked well together and the pancake was soft and fluffy. Similarly, my other friend who ordered the fermented chilli eggs enjoyed his meal, as he gulped it all down oh so quickly. My dish, the roasted broccoli and avocado salad was surprisingly yummy, thanks to the green tahini dressing, the different textures of each vegetable and that poached egg. My boyfriends peanut butter granola though it was such a disappointment. Not only did it look unappealing, there was so little cocoa yoghurt inside that as a whole, it was dry and hard to eat. Weve eaten many granola dishes at other cafes before, so we expected better quality. Overall, we loved the waiter, the ambience was nice and most of the food delivered.
My kimchi bowl was delicious and had a side of crispy sweet potato chips, crunchy greens and the rice was good too with fermented veggies. Everyone else loved their food too. And, finally I had a good prana chai after a long time!
