Tim.E asked me to come along to his invite at Burger Bao & Beer, thank you Tim.E.

June, our host was very lovely and offered us a selection of food to try. The Chinese burger was the highlight for me as the bread isn’t your usual bun and the patty was really nice. I enjoyed the chilli flavour in the burger too, which June was kind enough to explain to us the region and story behind the type of chilli we tried.

I loved the green tea, which was from June’s region, it was tasty and perfect on a winters day. All in all a pleasant restaurant which is worth a visit.

I was invited to visit this new restaurant. There were a few highlights which I will describe below.

I tried some pork gyozas which were good, and beef burger w a delicious Chinese bun. The ingredients were fresh, the bacon crispy, and the meat patty was tasty.

I tried some green tea made fresh using tea leaves which I really enjoyed.

For dessert I had a coconut milk based dessert w goji berries. This was refreshing and light.

Overall this is a good place to visit if you want a non -greasy tasty burger w some interesting Asian inspired side dishes.

As you enter you feel a cute cosy vibe right away. Welcomed with a beautiful smile and seated. It was evident that this place had a little bit of a makeover from the previous cafe. With the name BAO mentioned In the name I was super keen as a Bao fan. The menu read well and was well thought out. Starting with a traditional green tea and then moving onto the dishes. Each of the elements in the dishes worked and tasted very traditional which is hard to find. Special mention the szechuan burger which was fresh and absolute perfection!

Burgers (tick) Bao (tick) Beer (tick)… so far so good!!!

I was invited in to try a few of the asian style dishes at this cosy little Auburn Road eatery that has just ticked over 2 months of opening.

A relaxed venue with an easy listening tracks playing and a style that suggested more formal dining than your typical burger venue. I heard the restaurant decor was kept constant from the previous tenant and why change something that works.

Today I tried the home made pan fried pork and cabbage dumplings which was flavoursome and great with soy sauce.

The special pan fried house Bao with pork mince, chives, egg and vermicelli. I admit that when I think of Bao I always imagine steamed but can see how people would enjoy the fried variety. The pork and chives were a really classic flavour combination.

The last dish I tried was and the seriously hot chicken jalapeo burger which I opted to try on Chinese flat bread as opposed to a brioche bun. I really liked the flat bread option and describing the chicken content as a schnitzel kind of under sells it. Very thick tender and juicy and far from the flat processed chicken meat I imagined when I think of a schnitzel. Nice amount of jalapeos too.

I was doing dry July so not a beer was had but I went with host Juns green tea recommendation in the Dragon Well tea from her hometown city of Hangzhou.

Really appreciate the invitation to come in and try out this interesting menu selection.
