We were around this area and thought of trying out this cafe – heres what we thought!
Deconstructed soft shell crab tacos – this was an interesting dish at the name of the dish suggested! The soft shell crab was crunchy and juicy and having them with the charred corn, baby cos, salsa and kimchi were clever additions to make it complex and tasty!
Twice baked french toast – this was my fave dish of the day as the french toast melted in my mouth with the other elements and it was such a memorable experience! The salted caramel ice cream, berry compote, kiwi fruit and maple syrup went so well together! And the bonus bit was the walnut brownie! It was like a deconstructed french toast that was extra special!
Overall experience was a fun and tasty and would love to visit again!

We liked the colourful art work and murals on the walls – I understand that the painting by the entrance is a representation of the owner Jane.
The coffee was smooth and creamy and there were lots of options on the menu. Each dish was well presented and quite involved with lots of different elements and bright colours. A couple of our dishes weren’t exactly as described on the menu. The waitress told us that some of the items had been amended but the menus were yet to be updated – I’m still not sure what mermaid hollandaise would have been like 🙂
We ordered the Twice baked French toast ($19.5) which was described as coming with matcha soil, citrus meringue, white chocolate anglaise, berries, crushed hazelnut and espresso mascarpone. When the dish arrived it was stuffed with peanut butter – which I absolutely love – but was quite shocked that the peanut butter wasn’t called out on the menu, or at least made clear to us on ordering. This could have been quite a nightmare for someone with an allergy.
The Rosti benny was a huge dish with a big pile of moist, succulent, rich pulled beef served on a thick, herb flavoured roost – soft in the middle and crunchy on the outside. It had a good balance of flavour and texture, and looked really striking. There was an interesting vinegar flavour to the hollandaise that we hadn’t seen before.
The Wild Mushroom bruschetta was piled with different kinds of perfectly cooked shrooms on a thin slice of crispy toast. The rainbow cauli looked really pretty against the mushrooms and was a great texture and flavour, but we would have liked to see a bit more of it on the plate to balance out the richness of this dish.
Overall the dishes were colourful and tasty, and a little on the pricey side. I think they were also a little understaffed on the day as the service was quite slow, however we could see they were doing their best. Definitely worth popping in if you’re in the area.

Jane & Co is a funky cafe in Hawthorn.
Its got a great feel with impressive artwork and menu to match.
I was lucky enough to try the waffles and the french toast. The presentation of each was incredible but so was the taste. So many flavours but they all complimented each other really well.
I look forward to returning here one day soon
