Really lovely atmosphere and decor. There was a great variety and choices and good overall flavours. The presentation was excellent on every dish. The juices were divine and definitely worth a taste.

Order the bubble and squeak was a bad idea. The rosti tasted like oily potato. The sauce was salty and the even foam could not rescue the dish.
The semolina chips were average. The highlight was the creamy sauce on the side it was very cheesy and flavoursome. The only thing I enjoyed.

Hawthorn never fails us when it comes to brunch. The surburb is the nest of many popular brunch spots and we found our new favorite – Short Straw there. Located just a few steps from the busy main road, this place is a gem.
The food was beautifully presented and delicious. We ordered New York style chicken bagel and eggs benny. They were both very yummy. Coffee is good here but you better prepare to wait. Probably that’s the only down point.

Yet another lovely cafe in Hawthorn that offers a delicious menu along with prompt service and friendly/ attentive staff. (We came in on a weekday so it wasnt that busy.) Great location next to all the other cafes, restaurants, clothes stores and more importantly, Swinburne University. Food-wise, the portions were generous, the dishes were presented beautifully and the flavours were well-balanced overall. The smashed avocado was near-perfect whilst the stacks on waffles was a little rich. The tumeric latte was tasty and the size of it was big (considering most places sell it for roughly $5 in the normal latte glass). Coffee was excellent. Two thumbs up!

Absolutely stay away if you are hungry – the wait from the time you order until you can eat is 20-30 minutes wait!

Food is quite nice both in taste and looks, but in my humble opinion doesnt quite warrant the wait. How long does it take to create fried eggs on toast, with baked tomato, bacon, mushroom and beans? My food wasnt even hot when it arrived.

The Angus burger was pretty good too, and the chips was obviously just made – crispy and hot.

Drinks choices were plentiful, although a little pricey on the small sizes. Staff were nice and friendly, we arrived on the rainy noon of Melbourne cup but only had to wait about 10 minutes for a seat.

I reckon the wait could be shorter if the food turn up faster since we waited longer for the food than for a seat. While we were seated, customers who arrive after all got a seat easy with no wait.

I quite like the ambience of the place so if you are not too hungry and looking for a place to hangout and chat for a bit.

Another amazing brunch experience. The staff were so lovely! Absolutely loved the green smoothie
The acai bowl is seriously one of the best I’ve ever had. And add halloumi to everything because it’s amazing

My friend recommended this cafe to me. On weekends, many people wait in line for 20-30 minutes to get a seat. It may not be a wise choice for a hungry weekend morning, because you will spend another 20 minutes to get your food.
