My partner and I called into Sonny Ray for a coffee. The service was friendly and attentive. It was a sunny day so we sat in the courtyard and it was a great way to enjoy the afternoon. My strong skinny latte was really good, the coffee was strong, the milk froth was nice and the coffee had a nice earthy flavour. The almond latte was also really tasty and this place uses a good almond milk, but I didn’t see the brand. Overall it was a great place to chillax.

Really great cafe, we’ve been 4 times since we discovered it and are so sad we’re moving soon. Duck Benedict and Pork Belly And Hash Browns are my faves, also had the Karage Chicken burger today which was excellent. Good service and food is the best around (we’ve tried it all), really interesting subtle flavours. Visit soon, you’ll be back again before you know it!
Sonny Ray is a cosy, light filled cafe located along Auburn Road, Hawthorn. Visiting for breakfast I opted for the off menu mushroom croquettes along with a coffee to drink.I highly enjoyed the mushroom croquettes served with tuna rillettes, apple, dill, avocado mousse, baguette crisps and poached eggs. The croquettes were cooked beautifully, crisp on the outside and creamy in the middle. I wouldn’t have thought to combine mushroom croquettes with tuna but surprisingly I enjoyed the flavour combination. The tuna rillettes, apple, dill and baguette crisps all complemented each other and the eggs were perfectly poached.Overall I enjoyed the warm, friendly and cosy atmosphere of Sonny Ray and would love to return to try more of the menu. I rate it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 and recommend that you check them out if you’re in the area.
We visited this corner cafe in Hawthorn a few weeks ago. We were delighted by the high level of customer service upon arrival right up to the moment we left. The food was well presented and the coffee was spot on (as expected from Padre). One critique would be that the toast which goes with the breakfast board was plain, burnt and hard. It would have faired better with a spread of olive oil or butter. The coconut chia pudding was my favourite though.
