(very late review) came to the glenferrie hotel about a year ago on the public holiday during footy finals! i really liked the beer garden i thought was super cute, came with some friends for drinks and some food!
we got the chicken ceaser salad, pulled pork pizza, spaghetti pescatore and pulled pork pizza. I had the spaghetti pescatore and i thought it was pretty good for something from a pub! I think my friends enjoyed their meals too as they looked pretty good!
Food was a little pricey and we loved our espresso martinis! good little hang out area for a sunny day!
The one star is for the staff who were very friendly, but the food itself was not great at all. We ordered the Parma and the chicken burger, both lacked flavour and the chips were horrible; they were starchy and werent crispy, almost tasted stale. Its so close to our place but unfortunately I wont be back for another dinner.
Been here multiple times and must say that they really need to up their game amongst the food choices patrons can have around the area. However they must think that they’re a pub with sports on tv so they don’t have to worry too much about what they can produce in the kitchen.
With a ‘meat ageing’ area showcasing what they have is a big let down when they don’t cook those meat well. Plus pub classics like Parma or pizza or whatsoever are not even considered on the ‘ok’ scale.
Minus the food, it’s a good place to drink and watch AFL as a neighbourhood pub.
Only decided to come here because we were in the vicinity and had an entertainment book voucher. We we kind of skeptical at the start after seeing mostly negative reviews, but we went through with our choice because it wouldve been too much trouble changing to another place. Ordered a linguini, chicken parmigiana, prosciutto pizza and a kids steak meal. For drinks we got a pint of house beer and glass of house white wine on happy hour price. Service was friendly and cheerful. Out of all four dishes only the linguini stood out as it was creamy and aromatic. The pesto and feta cheese made it very flavorsome. The pizza and chicken Parma were pretty average and it felt like the ingredients werent very fresh. Kids steak was alright but overcooked and a bit charred. After the voucher discount it came to $75 altogether which was alright for what we ate but if there wasnt a discount it wouldnt be good value.
The service was nice and friendly. Standout dish was the dumplings. Some of the mains could be tweaked such as softer bread for steak sandwich and side the veal was a bit sad and tasted oily and the salad it came with look tired and old. I would come back but next time Ill try a steak or the chicken salad.
