Can’t compare to Michelin star restaurants, however for any Thai restaurant that is not Michelin star, 5/5! Loved it!! Will definitely be returning as quality food here…..
Love it , my family and I eat here often and get takeaway the food is always great as well as the service . Our favourite is the Tom khan soup
We will be back again!
I have never left a review before but felt compelled. Never again. Flavourless. Prob most flavourless attempt at Thai I have ever tasted. Won’t be trying again.
New management, not called Poppys anymore. Great Thai food all the favourites as you would expect or better. Service friendly and efficient, cozy surroundings and many locals.
Fawlty Towers comes to the Yarra Valley. Where do I start.
Ordered two Coronas. Waiter comes back and he says they have no Coronas. Ok. Ordered two Singhas. Two VBs turn up. I told the lady we ordered two Singhas. She comes back with a Corona and two Chang. Says there is only one Corona and no Singha. Ok. We have one of each.
Entree of lettuce cups turns up. Interesting. Quirky. Nice. Just like San Choi Bao only without the san, choi or bao, but nice enough. DIY lettuce cup with cashews, peanuts, toasted coconut, ginger, onion, chili and a sweet sauce. Mostly harmless.
Mains were a lemongrass stir fry with chicken and a ginger and fish fillet stir fry. A prawn dish turns up but is for another table. Our dishes eventuate but both are fish. We didn’t realise this until we embarked on the second one. Ok.
The carrots in the stir fries were crinkle-cut and had peas and beans. Um. Frozen packet veggies? Not bad, but not usual.
Both dishes were mostly the same, one just had more ginger.
Water for the table required three requests. The young and definitely inexperienced waiter brought the bottle, then on my request, two glasses (and another bottle!). I was surprised there was no Siberian Hamster at this stage.
Meal was acceptable but one of the poorest Thai dining experiences I have had. It was definitely one of the most incompetent restaurants I have eaten at.
Paying the bill, some boozed up wino wanders out of the kitchen, swigs his beer and goes back in. Scared to think what goes on in there!
Shoddy service. Poor food quality and presentation. Basil and Manuel are infinitely more competent in comparison. Good for amusement value only.
Twice disappointed with service. Went to leave 50mins after being seated when we had needed to chase staff for a chance to order and STILL hadn’t received drinks (let alone meals!) Young male waiter was very apologetic and gave us a $60 dining voucher hoping we’d return and give them a second chance…which we did. After making a booking and mentioning the voucher, we ordered and ate, and were presented with $85 bill. We provided our $60 voucher and were told by the owner/boss that it wasn’t valid because the signature on it wasn’t hers and she was the only one authorised to issue vouchers. We explained that we had no way of knowing such things and that her staff had issued the voucher to us for previous poor service, and also that we would not have come back if not for the voucher. She continued to argue that it wasn’t valid and that she couldn’t afford to give us the $60 off. In the end, we were given $15 off and had to pay $70 when we’d expected to pay $25. A disappointing outcome because the food is lovely but we won’t be going back for that sort of service.
