4.5. My go-to place for lunch in the Yarra Valley. I love the relaxed atmosphere and vibe of this place, although parking can be very difficult on a busy weekend. You can head over to their wine-tasting area whilst waiting for your food, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Can’t go past the pink moscato. We had the truffle fries (yum!!), broccoli salad and chicken drumettes to start, which were all well marinated and tasty. The baby octopus and mushroom pizzas were delicious. Generous toppings and serving size. I was sad to see they don’t do the pink moscato sorbet anymore. They do have a moscato icy drink, which was good, although I would love them to bring back the sorbet as well. Highly recommend.

I loved coming here, the food is amazing and their beverages are super beautiful! I love coming here and will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu!

Innocent Bystander is a lovely venue with a modern decor and friendly service. It was a logical visit when staying in Healesville.

The food was solid but felt underwhelming. The paella felt moist and less crisp than desired. The pizza was ok but the flavours didn’t seem to pair well (but they may be my own personal tastes)

    Yum!
We came here for dinner and shared a wood-fired pizza and a paella. The pizza was the stand-out, we had the mushroom and it was delicious.
I also enjoyed the customisable wine tasting paddle available on the menu, so we could sample the tasty wines Innocent Bystander has on offer.
The venue is very comfortable and cool.
Wish we had something similar closer to home, a must visit in the Yarra Valley.

Super packed for a Sunday afternoon, we didn’t make a booking so left our name and number before being called back after 15 mins. We felt the staff could be more welcoming as they were a bit snappy at times. For lunch we ordered the paella del mar, chorizo pizza, and cauliflower salad. While the presentation was great the food didn’t really stand out. The paella lacked flavours and the rice overcooked. The pizza had a good amount of sauce and cheese but not much to offer on taste. The highlight was the salad as it was fresh and nicely seasoned. We finished our meal with complimentary wine tasting. The moscato is a must try if you’re a moscato fan.

The day after Papa Ginos, I went to the Yarra Valley with the doctors from the night before! This spot was recommended by the two Doctors as their favourite one day date trip location due to how good the food was. So I mostly went with their recommendations for that trip, the first pizza we got was the spicy pork pizza, San Marzano tomatoes, scamorza cheese, locally made spicy pork, red peppers and hot green chili. This is the kinda crust I was after! Thin, puffed up, crispy, slightly smoky perfection! A slice that drooped slightly when picked up! Be still my foodie heart! The scamorza cheese was perfect as its like a drier, more concentrated in flavour mozzarella! I’ve had pizzas so wet from fresh mozzarella that its been like eating soup! This was not my favourite, the next one was.

Our second pizza was the slow cooked baby octopus, red capsicum, San Marzano tomatoes, charred radicchio, parmesan and balsamic vinegar. What a bloody cracker of a dish, the octopus was tender enough even brace face here can eat em! I hate bitter tastes in food but the charry bitterness of the radicchio with the saltiness of the parmesan and the syrupy sour/sweetness of the balsamic vinegar had me raptures with the flavour combo! Definitely one to recreate to go with something on the grill for sure. I ate 3 slices of this pizza as the doctors preferred the other pizza.

We got the Mostly Meat board, a metre of chatcuterie items for sharing. No one liked the meat components, the bresaola had a slight rainbow sheen of oil but was dry, salami wasn’t spicy enough, the ham was quite dry, the cornichon pickles were heavy on a juniper berry flavour while the cucumber pickles were still wet in texture, not as crunchy as I like.

On other hand the duck and pistachio terrine was bloody good, take a slab of that bad boy home, the Yarra Valley fetta with the Mount Zero olive oil the top saved everything and the house made onion jam was something I was in love with. I actually bought a bottle to take home with me! A very mixed bag.

Jesus Christ, this is some of the most delicious food I’ve had in a long time and it was the highlight of my recent trip to Melbourne. If you are blessed enough to be in the Yarra Valley, head here for a bloody good feed. Avoid that board though, or just get the non meat version perhaps.

We loved the meat platter and moscato here. Service was really friendly too. Paella was as a bit of a let down (a bit mushy) but everything else was was great.
