Really lovely place!! The service was lovely and the cafe was spacious. There were plenty of seats indoors and outdoors to sit. The food was a great size and super tasty. There was lots of original flavours and unique combinations thats worked really well together.
Would I return? Happily whenever I am back in the area.
The Diplomat is a spacious cafe that is a fantastic venue for breakfast if you live locally near Highett. On a Sunday morning at 9am our group of 4 were served immediately as we walked in the door. Although the venue was full to the brim we got a table straight away which was nice considering Melbourne these days there’s usually a wait. A nice surprise!!
Its lovely inside, plenty of light coming in from the floor to ceiling windows, an abundance of indoor greenery, wooden furniture, edison bulbs, whats not to like about this place! The seating is comfortable without trying too hard, a lot of other cafes could learn a thing or two. Sometimes they play RnB which can really boost your mood Another thing worth mentioning is that they are extremely kid friendly here. I was seeing colouring books and crayons flying out to the tables as fast as the food. Its great to see that in an age full of technology, that theyre still trying to entertain the kids the old school way!
On the menu is a good range of breakfast options for adults and kids. There is also a lot of clean and healthy foods on the menu that dont appear to lack in flavour! The Diplomat has also reinvented some Breaky Classics. The Smashed Avocado has Quinoa throughout it which adds a nice crunch and I was very surprised to find that they had Eggs Benedict with Pastrami rather than Bacon or Ham. If your someone who doesn’t eat pork this is a fantastic option and I can highly recommend! Also great if you are a Eggs benedict Fan and want to try it a different way. I had the Breakfast Burrito with added Pulled Pork. It was huge and very tasty, a good option if your wanting a dish without eggs that isnt an acai bowl etc.

Pro tip: kids toys can be found on the front counter and lots of parking options on Railway Parade.

You really feel like youre at home when you consume it because it is a staple breakfast feast in Melbourne culture. This one had a little twist as it has quinoa throughout the mix. > 12 Hour Smoked Beef Brisket served with a parsnip and potato rosti, chipotle mayo and a gherkin and apple slaw | @thediplomatcafe < An absolutely beautiful lunch creation, a dish I would not normally try but what I learnt from ordering it was, you have to branch out and try things out of your comfort zone, otherwise you wont know what you like and dont like. I had so many people in my mind when I tried this dish because I knew they would love it too. The brisket was super soft and the sweetness from the apple slaw added a really refreshing element to the dish. The rosti added a drier texture and the mayo gave the meat a little bit of a spicy kick and tied all the flavours together. The breakfastpiggy team

Place is neat and spacious. Kids friendly environment. I traveled 17km because I was intrigued by the photos posted. Okonomiyaki is nice, single origin coffee is just. On the other hand the Salmon was borderline. It would be nice if they used fresh Avocado. Eftos machine was not properly working so lucky I have some cash.it can be improved. I’ll be back to trial other dish.
