Came in for some drinks. Had a strong latte and a classic smoothie. The coffee looked ok but was a bit bitter, 7/10. The smoothie was really bad and watery, too much almond milk maybe and not enough of the other ingredients? Service ok.
We decided to try a place that we’ve passed by many times, and was looking forward to lunch with a nice casual atmosphere.
The setting was nice and cosy but unfortunately the reception was not warm. Upon stepping in, the waitress told us to pick a spot which we did and we did not receive the usual warm/friendly/casual greeting as one would expect in any cafes. Our drinks order were taken and we had to get the waitresses’ attention a couple of times before we ordered our meals. We had the Beef Burger and Fish of the Day.
The food took approximately 30 mins before they arrived. The Fish of the Day had beautiful braised leeks and fish was grilled/pan fried nicely. Unfortunately for us, there was too much sauce over the fish and although the potatoes were nice and crunchy, the oil used to cook them in was not fresh as we could taste a film of ‘aged’ or over used oil.
As for the Beef Burger, we brought it to the waitress’s attention that the burger was undercooked ie. it was red and raw. It was still cold. The waitress simply took it away and said she’ll let the kitchen know. There was no apologies, no aknowledgement of any fault or any feedback given to us from the kitchen or management.
Although the burger let our eating experience down, we would have overlooked it if the mistake was acknowledged in some form of apology ie. ‘I’m sorry for that’. It was the service that let our whole dining experience down.
We hope that the service will improve over time as it seems like a great local cafe with many people coming in and out buying their bread.
Such a love cafe to eat a yummy breaky or lunch in. It is such a pleasure to visit. I am so grateful for the safe gluten free environment that caffe strada provides me.
I very much enjoyed my design-your-own breakfast. I personally really liked the big mushrooms, although I expected the smaller ones you usually see in cafe breakfast dishes. The dish looked pretty with a pansy. Couldn’t finish as I was full but it was delicious. I’ve had better mochas though.
Faultless. Quite possibly my new favourite place in Ivanhoe. Great ambience, friendly waitresses and extremely tasty food.
I had a banana smoothie and the smashed avocado (without the kale) – the bread was incredible. Dense yet light, packed full of flavour. As healthy as it looks.

We had the slow cooked pork shoulder roll, strada pie and sausage roll and it was all brilliant. Great flavours and great staff. Will be back for sure.
