in my eyes its the best cafe in Melbourne! i highly recommend visiting it !!
HOW does the male barista during the week (assumably the manager) still have a job at this establishment. He proceeded to tell me that there was a minimum eftpos, (YES, it is 2018 and this cafe STILL has a minimum eftpos) so I bought a muffin as well. The customer after me then purchased a coffee and the manager decided to waiver the minimum eftpos for him. Please inform me as to how it is fair to select which customers have a minimum spend? You either have a minimum or you don’t. I have gotten my coffee from here a few times as it was convenient for me, and I have just never gotten a positive vibe from that manager. He is not the type of person you’d enjoy seeing in the morning. Has never cracked a smile once. I returned previously on a day to try out their food. I ordered the smashed avocado and my girlfriend ordered the cauliflower fritters. The smashed avocado was a minimal amount of avocado spread on toast with a tower of kale. Seriously, you would think the kale was the star of the dish. And the cauliflower fritters…. 6 fritters served on a bed of salad. The amount of salad took up the whole plate and was so bland. I suggest you start serving these fritters with something else because my friend who recommended me to this place suggested the same thing. The ambience in this cafe is dark, black tables, black chairs, black coffee cups, black aprons and black walls. It could be a funeral home. There is a positive that came out of this, on the day I came for food, there were two ladies working and they were LOVELY! The staff (except for the manager) are the only incentive to return to this place. The tall female barista is a delight to talk to and the girl wearing a badge on her apron that says ‘pat all the dogs’ really brightened my day. She was so welcoming and had a really contagious laugh. I’m glad to see something is actually being done right at this place, atleast the staff are great…
Ordered a lovely looking pre-made chicken snitzel and salad sandwich from the counter. When they served it I noticed ham inside which I do not eat. I returned it and they politely offered to make me one without ham. When it was served it was only a snitzel and lettuce inside toasted bread. The chicken was hardened as though it was heated from frozen. I was surprised there was no other vegetables or cheese to make it taste exciting. This was a very bland and plain sandwich and they charged me $13.00 for it. I was disappointed with the sandwich and thought it was overpriced. The coffee here is also pretty bland. I have given this business 3 too many chances, hoping my next visit would be pleasant. But it is not. There are more pleasant cafes in the area. I cannot give this cafe another chance. Sorry guys. I think you need to improve your food and coffee to compete with the other cafes if you want to stay in business.
Very nice to walk into a cafe in Flemington with an extensive menu and one that reads well with lots of variety. I ordered the Pan Fried Gnocchi with prosciutto and sage butter, the Gnocchi were perfect being fluffy on the inside with a lovely caramelised surface. The flavours worked well and my only criticism is that some of those lovely pan juices from the burnt butter should have been drizzled over the dish. My friend had the buttermilk chicken burger and enjoyed it. The Chicken was moist with an awesome crisp coating and accompanied with a tangy mayo. His only criticism was that the crunchy slaw was just undressed cabbage (not the expected coleslaw) and lacked flavour but the chips were crunchy which is not always a given. All in all good food and with some adjustments easily could elevate these dishes to 4 out of 5.
The venue itself is pretty good. The artwork looks great and you get a good vibe even when it isn’t overly busy. There are plenty of vegan and gluten free options which is great when looking for a healthly breaky or lunch. The salad I had was a little bland but had the right engredients, just needed a little something extra to bring all the flavours out. They used to have burger nights but that is no longer the case.

Great to see there is still some places in Melbourne that don’t do the plain old Jane but dare to offer a few different things on their menu. I had the nourishing bowl which, albeit a bit pumpkin-heavy, was very yummy and in fact nourishing. My friends were all very pleased with their food that looked and smelled amazing. Everything looks lovingly made and fresh and is quite reasonably priced too. We’ll surely be back.
Great local cafe with a great variety of food from typical brunch fare to great burgers. My two fav dishes are the smoked salmon with goats curd and poached eggs, and also the frenched brioche with pear. Good coffee, friendly service.
