The restaurant is quite spacious large enough to fit a bridge to divide the areas. Thoughtfulness can be seen in the decor & table setting.
The dishes were beautifully presented and most were of high standard. Tempura was the standout which was light & crispy! I also liked their tofu sesame dessert!
Their award winning cocktail is also recommended.
Miss Kasumi upon entering gives off very authentic, japanese vibes with their interior. I was taken in by the beautiful japanese decor, clouds, flowers, the little bridge inside and most of all the music! They played music to which some originated from animes (eg. My neighbor totoro) which i absolutely adored. 5/5 for decor without a doubt!
I came here in a group of got with a groupon voucher offering a 10 course meal for $88/2pp.
My favorites from this were the mushroom spring rolls (i know they werent called this but its basically what they were), the sashimi, the tempura prawns and the egg custard.
Items like the teriyaki chicken, the california roll and the moon dessert were quite mediocre and had nothing extravagant about them, however thats not to say that they were bad in any way!
Overall the food from the groupon options were a 3.5/5 and i would recommend it as its great value for how much you pay!
Diverting away from the groupon offerings, i decided to try their nigiri as i wanted to see what their sushi quality was like given their beautiful presentation for the preparation station. I have the slightly cooked salmon nigiri and the toro nigiri which was absolutely phenomenal! The toro melted on your tongue and the salmon was so fresh and delicious! 4/5 for the nigiri and i would definitely return to explore their options!
A slight problem through the next was waiting time. For a 10 course meal it becomes problematic when youre waiting 30 minutes for a dish to come out, however it was handled very humbly and respectfully by staff and they tried their best to make up for it so overall the night was not ruined!
I definitely would recommend giving miss kasumi a try as it is not super expensive and i believe the sushi/sashimi is of great quality! I would give a 3.5/5 if possible.
Thank you for having us!
Lizzies first impression: I was quickly impressed by the interior inspired by the Japanese architecture. The staff are very welcoming and friendly!
Lizzie enjoyed: we chose the omakase that was around $89 a head I believe and it was amazing! Each dish was made with care and the staff really made sure they explained to us what the dishes were. I especially loved the steamed eggs with prawns – it was silky smooth and cooked perfectly. I also really enjoyed the main dishes of duck and also salmon! The tempura dish was very generous
Lizzie did not enjoy: It is a little further away from the city but definitely worth paying a visit if youre close by. The dessert was lovely but I felt there was too much flavours going on.
Lizzie rates overall: I loved the interior and I would definitely come back for more – especially to celebrate a special occassion!
Miss kasumi are simply one of the best japanese restaurant you must visit. Start of with the traditional japanese interior decor and music. And then is the food they really have put in the effort and create as authentic as possible. Finally staff make feel relax and very friendly.
Theres good feasting to be had over at Miss Kasumi, but mind you, it pays to have a good look at the menu before you gotheres so many tasty-looking options and only so much tummy room.
The first thing I noticed upon walking in was the ambient and spacious lay-out. Pleasant lighting and decor was also quite a stand-out feature for me. It also never got very loud on a Friday night, despite being full to capacity from probably 7.30-9. I would say its a great spot for group dining and even for large groups. The staff were as attentive as possible and very good natured and friendly.
The menu goes for a bit of a flamboyant take on presentation for mainly traditional Japanese dishes, as well as for some others which have a nice conceptual twist to them. We attempted to sample a variety across the large menu based on their recommendations.
From the starters we tried the angus tataki and live oyster. These were okay. The tataki had a few elements to it, with not all blending together nicely on the palate. The garlic vinaigrette was overpowering also, however it was not an unpleasant dish. The oysters were small and quite flavourless, thought certainly fresh enough. The sushi and sashimi was very good, and I wouldnt expect any less considering the image Miss Kasumi conveys as a Japanese restaurant. The toro sashimi was the pick of these for meit really redefined the meaning of melt-in your-mouth, basically dissolving into the palate, leaving the smooth flavour to be savoured. The sashimi moriawase entree contained the typical trio of tuna, salmon and kingfish. These were all of a high standard, and the kingfish was particularly impressive, being beautifully delicate and with not one tough/stringy bit to it. We ordered a few of the premium nigiri sushi too. One was the Anago (sea eel), and this was quite delicious. It was smoother and silkier than typical unagi, and was served as a large piece. They grilled it lightly, and this was a good touch and suits the type of flesh. We also had the scampi, which had great texture. I felt it was lacking some depth to the flavour, but my partner didnt notice this. The last one was one of the types of clam, although I dont think this one appears on the menu anymore as it is probably a seasonal catch. I dont recall was it was called, but it was decent in size for clam. It was nice and flavourfulbut not something for those who dont like fishy flavours.
We also enjoyed a few things from the specials menu. The smoky pork belly was a bit of theatre, emerging from under a glass of trapped smoke. I daresay this was a tad gimmicky, but the pork was soft and juicy, even though the ball of belly meat was small and not particularly dense in terms of meat. The mushroom pipe was basically a mixed mushroom spring roll (quite a big one). But I dont think it was spring roll pastry that was used from memory. The end result was really quite delicious, much better than it sounds on paper. Juicy inside and very tasty. Ive forgotten the name of the dish, but one was a mixed mushroom tempura, compacted together into a tempura ball with a quail egg encased on top. This was quite nice, a good combo. The final three savory dishes to come out were the black cod, king crab tempura and scampi red miso soup. The black cod was nice, although Ive had nicer cod dishes elsewhere. Still the flavours were all there and the flesh, although slightly dryer than expected, was still pleasant. The king crab tempura was very nicethe flavours of the crab and succulence of the flesh hadnt been lost, and the quality of the batter and the cooking was not brilliant, but of a good standard. This was the same deal with the standard tempura moriawase wed had earlier with the other dishes. This included king prawns and seasonal veggies. The scampi red miso soup was a nice dish to finish with. It was great to relish that rich miso flavour and not have to contend with any saltiness. We got a whole scampi sitting inside it, and its flavour had been subtly infused into the soup, and the scampi itself was delicious. Dessert was okay. I ordered the crispy puffs in three flavours, I think the flavours were coconut, green tea and mango. All were not bad, but not packing anything that lit up the palate. The matcha pagoda was an interesting looking dessert, basically a tower of sweet goodies. The elements didnt go together brilliantly, but individually they were good.
Overall, an enjoyable experience. Excellent customer service. A great spot for groups, with some very nice authentic fare and tasty contemporary stuff. The only downside would be that if you were looking for a Japanese meal for this price and not in a group, youd be compelled to choose a more traditional restaurant.
High quality Japanese food in Kew! Surprised it isnt more popular during lunch time. Lunch menu is fantastic – also included with your meal of your choice was miso soup, seaweed salad, edamame and another salad. I ordered the aburi salmon don. Very delicious and fresh. Can highly recommend 🙂 staff member was very helpful and friendly!
Had an extraordinary individually supper which obviously they have quite recently begun doing. Has just been open two or three months at longest. Will return for a meal , which they obviously accomplish a greater amount of. Sustenance was crisp and extremely flavorful, Even awesome deserts! Unquestionably give it a go!
