Came here for the group Sunday lunch. Its full house and packed. The dishes are all in good decent portion and worth the value. Will come back to try the roast duck dinner.

It was highly recommended to me by a friend but i came without expectation.

Decor is trendy with some hanging signs reminding me of hk and staff is friendly and attentive and patience to explain what to order.

Food quality is great and i would come back again to sample more dishes

Not sure what to expect as the name seems very casual. It turns out their Cantonese/Chinese dishes were quite delicious. They were also flexible as we wanted some vegetables with our beef. The chrysanthemum fish we ordered was one of the best I have had in Melbourne.

It was a quite wednesday. As you enter the restaurant you can hear a lot of people from different background enjoying their food accompanied by a glass of wine.
Upon my arrival, the staffs was greeted and welcoming me to my designated table. They recommend me to get the set menu..

    FOOD Set Menu
    1. Xiao long bao, skin has the right texture and soft. juicy, perfectly seasoned and cooked meat inside.

    2. Spicy dumpling not too spicy, sweet, sour with spring onion. A perfect combination of spicy sour and sweet but create harmony in your mouth

3.Watermelon juice is really fresh and sweet. Complimentary from the restaurant.

4.King prawn with salted egg was so crispy, the prawn was so juicy and cooked perfectly.

5.Crispy eggplant (one of the chefs specialty) i did not expect that the size was a lot!Perfectly cooked inside crispy, sweet and sour sauce, so flavourful!
One of my favourite dish from the set menu.

6.Chinese cabbage with garlic sauce was
fresh, perfectly blanch and wok together. Balance flavour and the garlic is not too overpowering, which is i like it!

7.Beef ribs with teriyaki sauce was so tender!! The meat was juicy, chewy, the home made teriyaki sauce well absorb to meat, make the meat richer flavours.

8.Salted egg yolk custard bun was amazing!! The filling was melted inside when you break it apart, makes it one of the best bun ive ever eat so far in melbourne. I want to go back and eat the bun more!

    9. Watermelon cut

Overall, the place was nice, easy to find a carpark too. The ambience and the place itself was bright and welcoming. The staffs was also very attentive and friendly. They are always making sure that each table was taken care of.

I will gladly to coming back to Nihao restaurant for sure! Thank you for the great experience.

    Will come back for:
    + Shanghai Juicy Pork Dumplings
    + Chilli Wantons
+ Golden King Prawns with Salty Egg Yolk
+ Sliced fish in pickled vegetable soup
+ Premium beef in teriyaki sauce
    + Salty Egg buns

There is a lot to like about this new chinese restaurant in Kew. The space is big, service was friendly, and staff very knowledgeable of all their food. But the freshness of ingredients and tastiness of the dishes speaks above everything else. The promise of the juicy dumplings was fulfilled, with each dumpling busting with hot small packets of tasty soup (not many restaurants get this right). And the chilli wantons were well balanced and a delightful way to start the meal. The egg plant chips were good but you really cant eat too much of these as they tended to the sweet side. We also liked the Salty Egg encrusted king prawns and you can really taste the freshness of the prawns here. In truth, you can cook any fresh seafood this way, and itll taste great. We were particularly surprised by the fish fillet in pickled soup. This deliciously textural soup makes you feel healthy drinking it with the combination of pickled Vegs, herbs and fresh fish. The premium beef was an eye fillet cut of beef that was cooked medium and super tender and moorish (although a little sweet). And the Salty egg buns was a nice way to round off the meal. Not much to fault here. The menu is loaded with casual hawker type dishes, but also has a good selection of A la Carte dishes that you can order to suit. A great addition to the High St stretch and we certainly will be back!

(We were invited to dine here by the owners in this case).
