Willsmere Station Cafe is located on Pakington Street in Kew. Initially opening as a cafe, they have recently expanded to offer dining on Friday & Saturday evenings.
We were invited along for the launch of the wine bar which is a great space with beautiful long wooden tables inside & out. They have a large selection of natural wines, cocktails & a relaxed tapas menu. The owners are clearly passionate about what they do & their knowledge of wines was impressive.
We really enjoyed the Prosecco, the gorgeous cheese platters & trying some canaps based on some of the brunch dishes. Willsmere Station is a relaxed wine bar & perfect for a quiet evening sampling good food & wine. Id love to go back & try the full brunch menu. Thanks for having us.
This new cafe is a wonderful addition to the neighbourhood. (Setting up shop right next door to another cafe which has been in the area a lot longer). Right from the moment you walk in, the interior is small yet welcoming. Its modern and cute yet not cramped. Having said that, there are limited seats (inside and outside).
Service was slower than most places weve visited, but it was understandable in this case because there was only one staff managing the front of house and another – a chef working hard in the kitchen.
Food-wise, the dishes can be improved. The Smashed avocado was standard with the usual ingredients: it was definitely a safe dish. The avocado was blended smoothly and tasted delicious with the generous amount of beetroot hummus. The slow roasted tomato added a subtle flavour but unfortunately the sourdough toast was too hard, especially around the edges. Meanwhile, the Waffles were sweet thanks to the orange syrup and fairy floss. The waffles and whipped creams were not enough to help balance the richness of the syrup. Its probably a better idea to serve the maple in a seperate cup or something to let the diner decide on how much syrup theyd like to add. The waffles itself wasnt too bad.
The coffee here is great. No problems there.
Overall, I like this cafe. It hasnt reached its full potential but I believe it wont be long before it does! The ambience is lovely and the one waiter is friendly. Oh, and I also like the fact that this cafe serves complimentary sparkling water as well as normal tap water!
