My score 3.5 stars (extra half for service & music). J & I had a walk-in lunch here on the 24th of July, as the caf we had our sights on was closed. Most of the patrons were up the front at the train station end, so we sat there too. Seemed like they were mainly having the lunch deal, which looked good value. We had the Salt & Pepper squid/Vermicelli with beef & salad. The squid & its batter were both quite thick, & when you bit into a piece, the squid would come out & you’d be left with hollow batter. It was ok, but I thought a bit pricey for what it was. The vermicelli conversely was pretty good value. The beef (which I hardly ever have) was soft & the salad plentiful – the included spring rolls were just average. The dressing for the dish was not as good as our favourite places in Footscray – lacking in punch & sharpness in comparison (admittedly a high bar). Still, overall quite nice. The guy who served us was great, really pleasant & helpful with our questions about the menu, etc. Not the flashiest setting, but the fab techno house background music (not too loud) really gave the place an uplifting vibe. Bit out of our way, but would definitely give it another go if we lived closer…
