The lady here apparently makes her own breads cakes everything from scratch in this French bakery/ patisserie.
She makes and sells an assortment of pies and quiches. As well as an assortment of filled baguettes/sandwiches/rolls. Also a pretty good selection of cakes and sweet treats. It appears as though she also makes birthday cakes. Whilst impressive that she does this all, it could be managed better.
Firstly some of the food advertised she actually doesn’t have available at the time. I wanted a sausage roll, she said it wouldn’t be ready for another 2 hours! I also witnessed many other disappointed customers coming in asking for pies/pasties etc who were told she didn’t have that one today or that it wasn’t ready yet. (This was around 11am).
So for starters, food availability esp basic things like sausage rolls is an issue.
My other annoyance was that there is no chocolate milk/iced coffees ie big Ms in the fridge. For a bakery whose main customers seem to be tradies grabbing pies etc, it makes sense to have big Ms!! They just go together!!
They do make home-made iced coffees and iced chocolates but the iced chocolate I had was inferior to a big M. It was too sweet and not presented well, no whipped cream. It was just chocolate sauce and milk from what I could gather. I strongly feel you should only offer home made iced coffee/chocolate if you can make it better than store bought ones.
I will go back, it is worth going there if you are in the area looking for a quick bite but just take note of the above issues.
Bad service, pastries are pretty nice but not really worth the price tag. The place is dirty and unhygienic – I saw a cockroach on the floor. Avoid.
My friend highly recommends almond croissant but no supply today. I took 30mins train here so I must buy something to eat. Plain croissant is also yummy! But coffee (flat white I have) tastes too light…
It is a neighborhood bakery, more focus on French patisseries. They have various mini and family sized tarts. Beef pie and spinach roll are also nice. By the way, coffee is really good, better then the famous next door cafe.
I am french, and I can tell you that, this bakery is one of the most authentic bakery I have find in Melbourne. The best bakery in the area. The baguettes are crispy and light, the almond croissants are amazing, and the price is reasonnable… It’s not a fake fancy bakery it’s just right. You must buy a fresh baguette for your breakfast at home!
Legit French patisserie with everything made on site. The French owner Veronique bakes everything from the cakes to the hot pastries. Coffee by DC is really good with a nice dark blend being used. If you are in the area it’s well worth going here, if this place was in the CBD it would have a line out the door every day.
Alain patisserie have been around for some time and have always been very reasonably priced. The baked goods taste good and the staff are friendly. But small to sit and eat here, but good for take away.
