My husband and I have been to Gyoza Gyoza many times, this review is on our most recent visit 15th Nov 2018.
Gyoza Gyoza used to advertise $6.8 for all their dishes (with specials like pork gyoza 5 pieces for $4.8). Now they have more premium dishes at $8.0 each. This time we ordered some of the $8.0 dishes but they are not very different from when they were $6.8; so its just part of their price inflation.
I cant go to Gyoza Gyoza without ordering my favourite dish Yukke (raw beef with quail egg) it was just as good as I remembered.
Chicken karaage with mustard miso very tender and crispy
Stir fry spicy pork belly very nice and moreish
Fried quail a bit dry and salty, but the fried tofu that came with the quail was fantastic. Pity the fried tofu cant be ordered as a standalone dish
Pork and garlic gyoza very crispy and tasty
Fried whitebait its a new $8 dish, unfortunately we are not a fan. Very dry in texture and very oily at the same time. Even though there wasnt much, we struggled to eat even half of the dish
They seemed to have a bit of out-of-order/shortage issue. We wanted to order the crab croquettes but they were out of stock. They were giving out lucky draw coupons that day and we were qualified for a free sundae. It took us several attempts because the waitress initially said the ice cream machine wasnt working, but eventually it worked. The matcha ice cream was nice, but unfortunately the soggy coffee-flavoured cereals underneath wasnt. The additional honey drizzle really wasnt necessary.
There were some misses but overall we do enjoy Gyoza Gyoza.
This is the second time we dined at Gyoza Gyoza Chadstone. In this visit, the experience repeats itself. We enjoyed the wagyu gyoza and loved the wagyu steak. We also enjoyed the hot udon and okonomiyaki. Will return.
Food all came out so fast, I would have preferred it if they didnt come out all at once… but better they did than having to wait I guess.
I like how all the dishes were small so we could try so many of them. Most things we ordered were good, except the cold soba and steamed prawn dumplings- soba was very bland and the dumplings were sloppy, falling apart and clearly boiled not steamed.
I was quite disappointed because they didnt have any burgers or crab croquettes available, especially since we went for an early dinner on a quite day, no reason why they would run out of these items.
All in all the food was alright, but nothing special.
I enjoyed my Friday night session here – it was a sunny afternoon, so we sat outside and people-watched with a 1L jug of Orion beer and a few snacking plates.
Weirdly there wasn’t a 1L jug of Asahi Dry option on the menu, only for happy hour, but I’m sure you could just ask for it. Orion was refreshing, but didn’t hold its effervescence and the head quickly dissipated. It’s probably better to have it straight in a glass, so you avoid the double pour.
The chicken kaarage was a perfect accompaniment to the beer – it come out hot, fresh and crisp. It was well marinated and came with a dollop of mayo.
Pork and garlic gyoza wasn’t too bad either, pan fried on one side and still a little juicy in the middle.
Edamame was seasoned with coarse salt and is a traditional snacking plate.
So this is what the 4 stars is for. I wouldn’t come here specifically for a dinner but for these chillout drinking sessions it’s not bad. It’s exactly what I expect from an izakaya.
Maybe extend the happy hour to 6PM at least, to give office people a chance to enjoy it.
It also wouldn’t hurt to give the outside tables a wipe with a fresh cloth, because it can get sticky.
We ordered the steamed kimchi gyozas, garlic pork mince fried gyozas, root fries, soft shell crab mini brioche buns, fried quail with tofu, ponzu sauce oysters and wasabi mayo oysters. We had a jug of pineapple slushi and some takeaway ice-cream trifle-like concoction.
All up damage was about $85.
I really enjoyed the fresh oysters, root fries and the quail. The gyozas were nice but there wasn’t any discernible kimchi flavour. I loved the pineapple slushi.
Nice place as a treat or for gatherings.
This restaurant serve a wide range of snack size food. If you are looking for a meal with variety, this is the right place for some grilled skewers, sashimi, sliders and of cos gyoza. Like the soft shell crab slider.
We ordered the Salt & Pepper Calamari Ring Burgers, Tuna Tataki, Seaweed Salad, Fried Chicken, Wafu Steak and the matcha soy lattes with icecream. Everything was quite nice but ‘averagely’ so. Not good enough to return but decent enough to give it a try.
