Never seems particularly busy here. Restaurant is large and spacious enough that it’s not too noisy to talk. Not pack table against table like most of the eateries in Carnegie.
Have eaten here many times and the food is always very nice and the service friendly.
For starters Otak-otak (Malaysian fish cakes) were flavoursome and spicy, although not hot. Malaysian Street Snacks provides an interesting selection from the rest of the starters menu.
For mains had Ayam Kapitan, a spicy chicken, and Malaysian Spicy Prawn. Both very nice.
With all food flavours are strong, spicy and interesting and the meals were well cooked. Vegetables were crisp and crunchy, not a soggy mess. Meals are filling.
    Didn’t get to desserts.
A warning however. We normally ask for hot meals when eating out. Here we choose medium, or maybe one medium and one hot main. Hot is hot!
Prices seem quite reasonable for what you get, though more expensive that the local dumpling houses.
Will continue to come here on a regular basis and work our way through the menu.

    Good reliable local Malaysian.
The curry laksa and laksa Siam are both very good, real pieces of chicken and seafood and full of flavour.
Other good dishes are the entrees, Satays, nasi lemak and definitely the Assam fish. gado gado also light and tasty.
Service polite and friendly, the restaurant has been around for a long time and I always see the same Malaysian lady in there. Looks and tastes authentic.

Visited Rasa Malaysian Cafe recently with a couple of friends. Walking in its apparent that this place is a little different from your typical asian restaurant with its bright vibrant colours decorating the walls, the slightly oversized rounded tables and a lack of images of Malaysian landscapes surrounding the diners.
This local Malaysian in East Malvern serves family style tasty lunches and dinners. BYO available. It’s inexpensive and service is fast, friendly and capable.

Rasa i miss the CKT and Laksa siam. I am back in KL, but still yet to find one that can match up to yours. No trace of Laksa siam found here. I am craving for it. After tasting your chicken curry nasi lemak, i find it very difficult to eat the nasi lemak here which is so waterly and light curry taste. No intense flavor to any of the dishes here unlike at rasa. Melbourne still has the best Malaysian food especially yours. I will be back to visit you again soon with family and friends. Hope you will be there for a long time. Oops, almost forgot, your pandan chicken is way much better than any those in bangkok and Malaysia. everyone just served fried chicken wrapped with pandan leave.

The service was great and staff friendly, however I found the authenticity of food disappointing. I ordered the Char Koay Teow for $15.80 which is pricey. I found the flavour flat and dish oily. The noodles did not have that wok flavour. In comparison to other Malaysian restaurants and pricing, I will not be returning.

What I have had from there has always been a tad above par. No complaints about food. But when I get home with a main, a serve of rice and sometimes an entree, it’s cost me over $30. That’s a tad $$$$ for takeaway Asian food. Apart from that an overall good experience.

A hidden gem!. I have never had a poor meal and have eaten here many times. It is an absolute gem and the family run business are delightful people. The curry laksa and pandang chicken are my favourite. We have often taken friends here and they are always happy to return.
