Lovely local Thai joint – nothing too fancy inside but a great feast for any day of the week! Particularly enjoyed the green curry, although would pick a different meat next time as the beef was a little tough. Also loved the prawn pad Thai. Very reasonably priced and good portion sizes!
For onw of the resturants with one of the most expensive delivery fees could be delivered within the hour and 15 minutes that they said I would have it by. When I called to check up on my food after the allocated time they were disorganised and rude.
Not only was it late but the food was cold and soggy
For more than a dollar per springroll you expect them to be bigger than your pinky. It wasnt just that though all of the portions were tiny
Nothing was wrapped properly so the bag was soaking wet
Food was not good. Would not recommend.
As soon as it’s busy, they take the phone off the hook. I’ve called them several times from outside their store and witnessed them do it.
Tough luck if you want to order take away. The old owners would never do this.
Flavourful delicious Thai food for take out. Tried the mango prawn curry and the chicken Tom yum soup. Reasonable prices, would improve by cutting the chicken into strips.
We loved our dinner at Shallot Thai, the highlights were the Pad Thai which was saucey fresh and tasty as well as the Satay Chicken with vegetables. Both mains were a generous portion for the price and very satisfying!
Would dine here again!
Certainly shallots are a handy little vegetable, but they’re hardly the sort of marketing collateral to inspire restaurant-goers to choose one unassuming street eatery over another. Still, Shallot Thai has stood the test of time in East Malvern so I decided today that it was a deserving candidate for my significant Sunday night spend.
Delivery was quick and the food was hot, but the flavours were average and there was very little meat in my main dishes (satay beef and red beef curry). I am a big beefeater – an obese beefeater – and a lack of animal in my meals is a huge issue. Perhaps it should have been clear to me on reviewing the branding of this eatery, but the lack of meat and corresponding plenitude of vegetables did not make for a satisfactory sitting.
Avoid if you have an appetite for anything other than greenery
We’ve been going to Shallot for years – they were the best Thai around for miles, however, the last few takeaway orders have declined in quality – they seemed more slap-dash and out the door dishes – to top it off on Friday night our red chicken curry was under-cooked. The sweet potato was hard and the chicken was still raw in the centre. I have contacted them twice to discuss it and they have still not responded. Very disappointing.
Addendum: They have since contacted me and apologised profusely. The replacement meal was back up to a much better standard.
