Came across this fine looking restaurant upstairs above Calia to satisfy our coincidental craving for yumcha.
Staff were extremely welcoming and professional, showing us the directions and seating us in the most beautiful yumcha restaurant I have been to. The ceiling was absolutely beautiful with the modern lights and deco, as we sit next to the stunning view of the garden of Chadstone.
We ordered the xiao long bao, which tasted great like every other authentic yumcha restaurant.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND – What I really enjoyed was the barbecue pork rice rolls and fried wonton. What I expected was nothing I got. It was phenomenal; very different and had a modern twist.
Instead of prawns in the steamed rice rolls, they switched it up with the flavourful pieces of bbq pork in there.
But the crisp on the wontons were amazing and something I have never had before.
The chicken xiu mai and king prawn ha cao were also great.
The price, however, is a bit higher than other yumcha places considering a similar amount to the others, but the food and dining experience here is worth visiting. Will come back to try the baked dishes and other foods.
We have been very excited to Yu kitchens grand opening since last year. Chadstone really need some good quality high end restaurant. The service and atmosphere are excellent. However, the biggest down fall is its food. Prawn dumpling was too doughy, lack of the crunchiness and freshness of the prawn. Taste like a big flour dough. The Bbq rice crepe was good but still not as good as Secret Kitchen. I have to say, dessert was the high light, better than most yum cha place. Only thing need improvement probably is the spoon, which does not match with the whole dessert presentation.
Great local place for yum cha! Great atmosphere and room space. Would love to see more yum selections and better staff training. (Don’t think most of them what they are doing)
Best yum cha anywhere. Brisk efficient attentive prompt service. Solid menu with just the right amount of options without turning into a ridiculous 101+ item Chinese menu. Dishes were light and tasty, no stodgy sauces and no MSG, my pet hates. Great addition to Chaddy dining options.
This visit had the steamed pork buns, calamari, crispy pork belly & sago mango pudding, every dish a taste sensation.
Yu kitchen is a newly opened restaurant created by a Michelin star chef and offers modern asian food.
Exceptional service and well laid out place with spacious tables, seats and great lighting.
Complimentary deep-fried wonton skins.
The golden silken tofu with salt and pepper is slightly crispy but lacking taste without the nori.
Signature bbq pork is okay, well glazed and fatty but the meat itself was lukewarm.
Free-range Berkshire pork with spicy sauce is great as the pork is thinly sliced and juicy with the sliced cucumber to compliment.
Sweet sour pork was dry and the sauce was overpowering.
Charred broccolini was plain and the sauce added a slight flavour to it.
Rice is overcooked which was disappointing.
Initially, we were coming to try the yum cha but it wasn’t available for dinner.

Came here this time for the lunch time service for yumcha. Much better than the dinner menu.
High quality food but for a steep price making me less inclinded to order more. Attentive service.
Small char sui baos that were salty inside.
Har gao was well made and soft and same went with the mushroom dumplings.
Shui mai was average
Cheong fan is small but the skin in soft with tender meat. Sauce is slightly salty though. Love how it doesnt slick together and easy to cut.
The charcoal buns have a unique taste with honey and 24karet gold dusted ontop.
Vegetable parcels are crispy and come with a sweet and sour sauce.
Overall expensive for the portion but great quility and well made.

I have been wishing Melbourne would have a more upper class dim sum restaurant like the ones you can find in HK.
We now have one in Chaddy. The price is on the high side since this is from Calia and it is looked after by 2 Michelin star chef (son of Iron Chef Chen Kentaro). It is also jointly owned by Malaysia’s Oriental Group.
The dim sums are smaller but tasted great.
Ordered the black truffle wagyu beef puff, pan fried Berkshire pork dumpling, Black Pearl scallop dumpling with conpoy and crispy roast pork with honey mustard. For dessert, ordered the heavenly swans with white lotus filling.
The roast pork has a crispy skin followed by layers of meat and fat. Complimented really well with the honey mustard. Must get!
Wagyu beef puff is infused with truffles. Pan fried dumplings are tasty and the scallops fresh and sweet.
Another must get are the white lotus swans. Delicate flakey pastries with sweet and smooth white lotus filling.
Customer service top notched. Waiters are very attentive.
Just opened this week and they are giving away 15% off and this weekend 10% off.
Why the 4/5 star – they have incorrectly charged us. Since it is new, I think their payment and ordering systems need looking into.
Although Yu Kitchen serves yum cha most dishes are different from the traditional recipes, incorporating modern flavours.
The beef puff fuses wagyu beef with aromatic black truffle, creating a mild and well balanced flavour, none overpowering the other. The pastry was beautiful and evenly golden providing fine flakes with each bite
The tobiko addition to the classic Steamed Prawn Rice Roll presented a eye-opening new flavour experience, adding little bursts of saltiness to the more subdued prawn meat. The thin slices of crisp spring onion also helped add another layer of flavour. The rice roll itself was also thicker but still soft.
Chocolate Salted Egg Lava Cake with Curry Leaf ice cream was not overpoweringly sweet either. I think the filling could be stronger but thats because Im a sweet tooth!
The classic Crispy Roast Pork was definitely on a class of its own – the meat was very succulent with a light crunchy skin. It was not at all excessively oily and hands down the best Ive had.
Finally the Mapo Tofu is indescribably delicious. Throughout the strong spiciness (without leaving a bitter taste or painful burning feeling) the meat still had a distinct flavour of its own.
Im definitely keen to come back and try the rest of the dishes!
