Being very partial to a bakery, Hootsens is a pretty good one, specialising in European breads and pastries ie strudels, danishes. They also do pre-made sandwiches and rolls for lunches which are a good lunch option.
I maintain that their hot cross buns are the best in town, better than Tivoli, Hootsen’s being a bit denser and more buttery. Their polenta raisin buns also good for satisfying carb cravings.
Worth a visit overall.
Hot cross buns definitely worth going out of your way for.
More a bakery than a Konditerei, Hootsens’s forte is their sourdough and German style breads, although they sell a good deal of sweets, pies, quiches and other gourmet things. I have tried quite a few things from them, and generally speaking range from OK to good, and the pricing is quite high.
I loved their seeded bagettine, pretzels pies, and polenta sultana buns. I liked their brot bread and sour cherry danish.
I found their cookies OK, some of the pastries and other sweets a bit too sweet for my taste.
They might have fancier breads and products in the morning, but I have always visited late in the day, so the range of products was limited as some products were already sold out.
Their sweet cabinet is crowded, ugly and unappealing, and it won’t tempt anybody unless you go there to buy a sweet specifically. I found their savoury cabinet more interesting, although there was nothing out of the ordinary except for the family sized strudel and quiches.
The pricing is high for everything, and I don’t think it is justified because nothing of what I have tried there is wow, the place is OK, not especially pretty or elegant and the staff have never jumped over the fence of matter of fact service.
Just a wish, I would appreciate having their packaged stuff properly labelled with the ingredients used, and expire date. Of course, sometimes you buy a package of cookies and eat it in the day, but that is not always the case.
A nice bakery, though, especially for out of the ordinary breads.
Hootsens are a great bakery albeit pretty expensive. One of the better things they make are their cheese twists but they ALWAYS run out even before lunch time. This isn’t a one off situation it happens more often than not. Surely, with this in mind they should simply make more to accommodate the demand?? It’s incredibly frustrating and seems completely avoidable. Staff don’t seem to care and just offer the cheese bread which is nothing like the twists. Hootsen’s listen up!! Up your game!
Quality, quality, quality!. I had a long black and a almond bear claw and have to say this is Damn beautiful. I like the atmosphere and service. It boasts a victoriana and contemporary style. Great tasting quality coffee and products. Try this place Lutz you won’t be dissatisfied!!
Yum yum yum. Lovely bread, food and the best coffee in Malvern.
Staff are fantastic, nice to go to a cafe and have interaction with the staff.
