I would love to see more late night dessert joints opening up in Melbourne, but in the meantime there’s Desserts By Night.
The service is pleasant when I entered, but it was difficult to get someone’s attention once I wanted to order so ordering at the counter is definitely the way to go. As I was there during early evening, the desserts came out within a short time after ordering, and the iced coffee even faster. It arrived at the table at about the same time as me after I ordered at the counter. Wasn’t a surprise then that the iced coffee tasted mediocre.
The desserts both looked gorgeous, and while the taste wasn’t fantastic, it was up to scratch. The play on textures in the Sticky Date Pudding deserved a mention. The pudding itself was moist and dense, the crushed macadamia and biscuit crumbs added a lovely crunch, and the caramel mascarpone was smooth and creamy.
Being a sweet tooth, I can see myself returning to give the other dishes a go, especially when a late night dessert craving strikes.
