We were at Highpoint and stopped at Luke’s for brunch. This little cafe was tucked away at the corner opposite Target and can be a little difficult to find if you’re not familiar with Highpoint shopping centre. The cafe wasn’t that busy on Sunday late morning ( 11 am +) and we got a table right away. An Asian looking staff came and served us the menu and politely told us to order at the counter. I enquired about their chai latte and asked if they use loose leaf and real spice. I don’t like chai that comes in powder form or in teabag so when the staff told me they use real spice, I ordered the chai. We also ordered the Specials of the Week – Smoked salmon rosti to share and a cup of flat white for my partner. When the beverage arrived at the table, I knew straight away the chai was made from powder and sent it back. The staff was apologetic, apparently their loose leaf and real spice ran out. I asked to swap it with flat white instead. I was a little let down that they would served me powdered chai after I told them I only like loose leaf chai. The food was well presented, eggs were perfectly poached but the rosti wasnt the crispy and thin Swiss rosti I was expecting but rather two small lumps of lightly fried potates which are tasty. When I was served with flat white to replace the chai latte, it had cute coffee arts- a smiling bear which I appreciate. The coffee was however a little too strong and too much froth for my liking -I ordered flat white for a reason! An average cafe in my opinion.
